This is Maine's first full year. He is still working on the kinks but when you watch him pitch, its unbelievable how unhittable his fastball is. The more he constantly goes out there and pitches, his command will be better and his other stuff(slider/change) will come.
Whatever to the haters. They dont watch him every game.

this is very true..
anyone who has watched maine last year knew he only had 1 pitch. His fastball. He threw maybe 5-8 breaking balls every start. He dominated teams with just 1 pitch.
As someone who has watched almost every start this and last year, his growth has been unbelievable. He still at times throws out the slider and change hoping they fall in for strikes, but they are very inconsistent.
fact is, every team in the major league could use young pitching talent like john maine. it doesnt matter who you are, even the best staff in the league (boston) could use maine. you can talk and downplay his talent all you want, but hes a starter on any club. end of story.

Boston could probably use John Maine... as a replacement for Tavarez. I would expect the same kind of performance from Maine than Tavarez is giving to the Red Sox. Maybe a tiny bit better.

just a little bitter thats all. And no i'm not bitter about John Maine. Its just I wonder how a team of Loduca, Delgado, Easly, Wright, Reyes, Aloue, Beltram, Green, Tom Glavine, Oliver Perez, Maine. Pelfrey, Sosa, El Duque, Wagner, Joe Smith, Heilman, Schoensucks, and Feliciano is 32-17 and the Yankees......filled with freeking Hall of Famers is 21-27 and 1 game out of last place....thats all....pure bitterness, and disgust

This is a tough period for all of us (except the Mets fans). Some people are going to be pissed, I guess it's just the way it is.

I just can't believe how pitchers like John Maine can be so successful in the NL, when IMO Rasner and Karstens are just as good get hurt and our team stumbles and stumbles and stumbles

I don't think Karstens is as good as Maine, but Rasner I think is just as good as him.
And yes, it's very frustrating that all our starters seem to get injured and all our position players with the exception of a few, while they have retreads and scrubs like Ruben Gotay, Endy Chavez, Damon Easley, Jorge Sosa and John Maine having career years.

Here we go again....Being a Yankee fan, are you sure you have the luxury to characterize these players as "retreads and scrubs?" Come on man, these guys are playing with fire and desire (Clyde ) which, with the exception of one or two, no Yankee is playing with right now.
They certainly are spinning and winning over there in the NL East.
As for the retreads thing -- It's stupid to call Chavez a retread when all he is doing is enjoying the game of baseball and playing the game with a sense of urgency. Endy reminds of a guy we would've had on the teams of the late 90's -- scrappy guy who just wants to have fun. I would love Endy Chavez on my team because he plays defense and he is fast and he has a knack for the little things. The teams that won championships in the Bronx are different in so many ways to the team we have now and EVERYONE knows it.

...yes, they're "agile, mobile, and hostile." and "playing with gusto"

Rasner as good as Maine....
. I just looked up delusional in the dictionary and cmaff and 34celtic were synonyms.
Jeez haven't you Yankee fans learned yet? You cant buy championships. Stack all the all-stars you want, you still wont win. I'd much rather have "retreads" that win and have fun instead of lifeless all-stars that suck. And Cashman is horrible. I bet Mariano's problems are because of his contract situation. It's gonna really hurt when Boston puts Papelbon in the rotation and Mariano as the closer.
Actually, I'd love to have Mariano on my team.

I just looked up retread in the dictionary. There was a picture of the three. Webster couldn't decide which one to use. After the picture, they included retread: see Jose Valentin, Julio Franco, and Chan Ho Park
Since when is Park an integral part of the Mets? He had one shot, blew it and will never see Shea Stadium in a Mets uniform again...

I'm pretty sure if I called a Mets fan delusional on their board, I would get a suspension. Not that I care, I'm just glad our mods are a lot more leniant.
dont tell me your crying over delusional. So you can call my team a bunch of retreads and i cant call you delusional for thinking that?
Your mods are lenient? How when i got suspended for laughing?
