Look, this year my argument was finally burned, but I think you kinda nailed it accidentally by what you said.

21-22 years and we never needed that backup to get us into the playoffs. Now, Wolf did a good job drafting younger guys and pawning them off and Thompson was on his way with Flynn. Thompson got a little lazy on drafting higher-end ones recently and got burned.

That said, we're talking 22 years of "veteran backup quarterback" money that would have been lit on fire.

The fact we got 22-years of injury free play isn't a reason to not have a decent backup. It is like saying I didn't have home or auto insurance because I never got in accidents and never had a fire at my house. The odds of any team having back to back HOF injury free QB's is ten million to one. You can't plan on those odds.

We didn't need to light any serious money on fire for a "pricey" vet because in years past, Wolf had the cupboard loaded with Ty Detmer, Brunell, Aaron Brooks, etc. And we'd pick up Doug Pederson or McMahon cheap. And TT had A-Rod and Flynn in reserve for Favre.

The problem though is that the method of having a second year guy ready fell apart this year because Brohm, Harrell, etc all flamed out and Flynn left. And VY looked terrible.

That said, if we miss the playoffs with this injury to A-Rod, we need to have a decent stop-gap guy for next year. We all understand the team can't win a Super Bowl without Rodgers, but we also can't go 0-4 midseason if Rodgers has another injury. Then we waste the season like we might do here.

I'm not angry at TT at all. But every option he tried at backup QB for this year failed so I think he just said screw it, we'll be fine and put a good locker room guy like Wallace on the team. He's got to address this for next year and depending on a 7th round pick from Weber State won't cut it.

That said maybe TT is a master wizard and Tolzien will take the field and look great. We'll see.

I will agree that we give the benefit of the doubt and see if a week of prep helps Seneca BUT we should immediately be bringing in Flynn or Young Or somebody as plan B. I really don't think Tolzien is Plan B.

I do strongly feel that if we're able to survive this period of time without Rodgers and remain in serious playoff contention, that it will have an immensely positive impact on our team and make us stronger in the long run. Other people are going to have to step up and demonstrate that they can make big plays without Rodgers, and the defense is going to have to show that they can't rely on Aaron to outscore the opposing team.

This could be the spark that'll lead us to the Super Bowl.

The teams Wallace faced as a starter in 2006 were all pretty mediocre, and hence comparable to the teams he will face now. Granted, it was 7 years ago and it's a small sample.

Every other team that he started games for finished 4-12 or 5-11.

His winning percentage as a starter is 28.6%

That's a terrible judge of a QB's play, for the same reason that Rodgers' 4th quarter comeback stats are a terrible judge of his "clutchness" or whatever. He played for some terrible teams.

On my way home from work 1250 was reporting that the Packers will be bringing Matt Flynn in for a workout. My guess is he has to pass a physical and they want to see what Seneca can give them this weekend but if he passes the physical and Seneca isn't up to the task Flynn would potentially be our started against the Giants.

I copied this from game thread. great news if this is true!
