This would be a Hawk level mistake. Pay a below adequate player, way above adequate level just because you drafted him high.

Tend to agree with this take. It's crazy because as of a couple years ago I thought we would have to commit upwards of 10 million a season to resign him after his rookie contract was up...

It really amazes me how far his level of play has fallen. It used to be where I'd watch games and would say multiple times during a game "There is Raji making another play!". Now it is more more of a surprise when he makes a play than anything.

Wondering how much that has to do with us overusing him early in his career. We may have burnt him out playing him so many snaps.

I think Raji just benefited by being part of a MUCH better set of defensive personnel early in his career.

Hell, even Matthews looks worse now than year 2.

There's just less guys to kill you on this defense than there were 4 years ago. And the scheme has gotten stale.

Certainly seems like a reasonable assumption. He had Jenkins and Bishop, along with a younger/better version of Pickett in the front seven with him at that time. So that definitely makes the offense compensate a lot more for those guys.

Using that theory though do you think his value goes up if we can add a guy like CJ Mosley in the draft next year to significantly upgrade ILB and Daniels/Jones take a step forward at the DE spots? Or do you think he's just not worth it period?

I personally don't think he fits our scheme all that well. With Capers we seem to basically run a 2-4 almost exclusively as opposed to a 3-4... and if you are going to pay Raji, you'd assume you are playing him to play NT, not DT/DE.

His offer should be for $8 million total at this point.

Even when we play our 3-4, Pickett takes the majority of the snaps at NT.

Raji should be playing NT as he did in 2010. He's out of position.
