That really sucks about Evans, especially with so many defensive lineman graduating.

One thing i wonder about is if it really was an academics issue, how did he get into MSU? Does Michigan St have lesser academic admission standards?

There are so many problems i have with the whole NCAA sports structure, but one of the many i have is what can be vast differences in admission standards from school to school and conference to conference.

Just look at the North Carolina scandal where an academic adviser told stories of athletes who were admitted even though some read only at a 5th grade level and one or two athletes couldn't read at all. There was also that story a few years ago about multiple southern schools badly abusing the exemptions for socalled cognitively disabled students, which allowed these schools to admit a bunch of athletes who otherwise would have had no chance to get admitted.

MSU is probably the worst academic institution in the Big Ten. Nebraska down there also.

And yes, it does suck. Quite the drama with this kid. In the end, he couldn't hold up his end of the bargain. Too bad.

Evans has been quite the rollercoaster. Shame to lose a stud player of his caliber.

Sounds like Hammock is going to the Ravens. The last Bielema holdover and Brewster's #1 recruiter at Minnesota.

If someone can't cut it academically, I really don't want them especially on D. We saw with the Packer secondary how bad it can get when guys don't know their assignments.

Still got Strickland. He may not have been an offical assistant (though he may have, idk) last year but he was a huge in state recruiter for the UW the last couple of years

Lammons to the Cocks. Would be nice to win one of these "hat on the table" things for once. Not just one of those formality ones for an instate guy.

Minnesota got their "hat on the table" guy in Jeff Jones, but there seems to be some serious doubt about whether he'll even be able to qualify so I'm not going to allow myself to get excited until that gets ironed out. If he sticks, the Gophers end up with the 8th best class in the conference which is about as good of a result one can expect at this point in Kill's re-build.

It's just stupid how much the SEC dominates the recruiting rankings. I don't think it will ever change either.

He wasn't in the group I was talking about. He was well sought after but the Badgers have gotten plenty of those types (in-state/moderately committed all along). Of course I'd have been shocked for you not to relate a post on here to the Cleveland Browns of the Big Ten somehow.

I'm talking about getting some national kid from Florida or California that has a big signing announcement at an All-Star game or something. Not some kid that while he may be 4/5 stars has been in the back pocket of the local school since his junior year.

You don't have to be a dick every time I mention Minnesota in a COLLEGE FOOTBALL (not Badger) thread. But whatever, I'll refrain from posting in this thread any more, should make you happy.

Like I said, you can say whatever the hell you want, I just didn't really see the connection, which is normally the case when a post is made about college football or even something completely unrelated to college football.

Losing Hammock hurts a ton. He's our best recruiter by far and a great coach. Only a matter of time though.

I'll probably be on hiatus from RealGM for a bit in football dead season anyways but I hope you don't think that was the post I was making. Your opinion is welcome here I sometimes just don't get where the conversation gets from point A to point B.

Go ahead and post away. I feel lame extending an online Olive branch here but I honestly am not trying to be such a dick about it. I promise to just ignore at this point.

Yeah, there are sometimes a correlation between the really dumb and the not being able to read things on the field but that's not always the case. I'm a nerd and did pretty well in school but when I was on the basketball court and football fields there were guys who couldn't pass 5th grade math waaaaaay better at knowing there assignments and how to react. A lot of is instinct rather than intelligence.
