That was a brutal first 16 minutes or so by the offense but the second half will be telling. If they lose this one I'll get on board with you. Bielema wasn't immune to these...and please take it as a comment of "hold off for a second" not a complete bandwagon push of GA and being happy with this result.

McEvoy is playing better. At least he is good enough to make basic plays against terrible competition.

Its looks like ludwig is finding a rhythm with the playcalling. Mcevoy doesn't look terrible when he's not pushing it 40 yards down field.

If there's a worse punt return man in all of college football than kenzel doe I'd hate to see him.

Had no clue that this was Bollinger with the boring monotone voice.

It was Western Illinois, but did you watch? McEvoy showed some promise. 21 of 24 after missing Erickson, right?

After that complete miss of a throw to a wide-open Erickson, he was completely on the money.

Again, Western Illinois, so I'm not calling for a Heisman, but at least feels like there is a bit of something they saw in him.

It was Western Illinois. He had some decent throws, no doubt. But it's Western Illinois.

I still think we need a guy who can stand in the pocket and make some plays against competitive opponents. I don't believe Tanner is that guy.

He was 21 for 24 after that and can run. We'll never know until they play another solid defense but I don't know how much more he could have shown today. It's completely reasonable that he could have shat himself in game 1 against a good defense in the 2nd half and is a passable QB that will at least win the easy games like Stave. That's still TBD.

I wouldn't have made an excuse for him if he went 10-25 today but his WR did completely stop on the interception.

I understand it was WIU, but I'm encouraged. Mainly because it appeared that Ludwig recognized how to put together a passable throwing game with this personnel and the defense stacking for the run. Throwing 40 yards downfield never made any sense. Stretch the field laterally with quick routes that occupy the S and LBs in the box.

Glad to see that from you. I'm still waiting for a judgment, but today made me think there was something they saw in McEvoy. I don't think this team was great to start, but maybe they'll have a decent season McEvoy is accurate like he showed today. There were a lot of throws that were tough ones he might see against a good Big Ten team and he threaded the needle.

After seeing how crappy the rest of the BIG played this weekend, our performance is a little easier to swallow. BTW has Purdue ever been the same since the Orton fumble?

McEvoy started to look like a quarterback once they pulled their head out of their arses with the play calls. Pretty much the whole LSU game and the first half versus WIU they had him in the pocket where he clearly is not comfortable at all yet. The second half they had him rolling outside where he could make plays with his legs if need be.

I really wish we played WIU first. There are going to be growing pains with him, but McEvoy is a very good football player. You have to remember that he hadn't played a live snap at QB in almost two years when he took the field against an SEC powerhouse in an away game. Not exactly ideal to build confidence. Once he got rolling he completed 17 passes in a row. That's not easy to do in practice against air. McEvoy will be fine and we will compete for another Big Ten championship.
