My only criticism of the play calling last night was that I would like to see them continue to make an effort to get the TE involved on regular basis. Those short, quick hitters that chew up 7 yards a pop are a great way to build rhythm.

Dick Rodgers and Quarless when used and thrown to def open things up, it still blows my mind. It's somewhat amazing how players can show up and be left out the mix the next game. Overall it was a great night but there were stretches of stagnation on offense that was overshadowed that was lost in the mix due to the superb play by the defense.

To be fair, almost nobody got involved in the passing game last night.

I'd love to get the TE's involved in the offense more, but you can't just force feed them the ball with little short dump-off passes and expect the defense to respect it if those guys aren't turning those receptions into big plays.

Teams have been getting away with covering Rodgers and Quarless with LB's because neither one of those guys has the deep speed to blow the top off defenses, nor the quickness/agility to make guys miss in the open field. Which is why I really hope to see Bostick get some more snaps in the coming weeks. He's really the only receiving threat we have at TE right now that can be a mismatch with opposing LB's.

I'm not saying that R. Rodgers is gonna bust by any means, but I think we may have overrated him a little in regards to him being an adequate replacement to Finley. I see a rich man's Quarless at best. Big, solid blocking TE with reliable hands, but not someone you can really spread out wide and ask to consistently beat LB's and Safeties in man coverage.

Every play doesn't have to be a huge gainer. Like Illyasova said, if we can get 5-7 yards, move the sticks and develop rhythm that is only a good thing for our offense. I love big plays, but I also love when we carve the middle of defenses and I think it's easier for Rodgers to pick teams apart when they fear 4 or 5 guys every play. And for us, those intermediate passes set up the long ones. On Jordy's long TD the safety not only bit on the run fake but also ran with the shorter crossing route which vacated so much room for Jordy.

What makes people think the TEs are consistently open for these wonderfully simple 5-7 yard gains?

I am not taking much from our offensive performance yesterday. I thought it was still a little stagnant, especially in the receiving corp. Lacy was better, which is nice.

Defensively, I liked the pass rush. It's the best I've seen in quite a while. Ponder aside, I thought we were better overall. Our run defense still needs work, though.

Re watch the game (im not saying this to be an ass). Rodgers and Quarless, when in the game and out on patterns, are WIDE open every play. Aaron had a tendency to always go downfield and he did it last night all night. Now the wides were open but the TE's just dont seem to be trusted by AR right now for some. reason.

Secondly Datone Jones was BLOWING people up. I think he was beating his man honestly every play. Nick Perrry and Luther also played very well. Hard to tell is it was a good showing or Minny is just that damn bad.

Rodgers tends to fall in love with his "three pointer". Most of the time, it works. Sometimes not.

My post meant I ragged on MM's play-calling in past games but I didn't give up on team. He finally listened to Lacy & others and changed how he ran lacey - to almost zero from shotgun to almost entirely with Rodgers under center. As for TE's according to JS - Rodgers is NOT blocking well which is disappointing and why he didn't start for first time. Quarless is not blocking very good either. And Bostick Is not playing because he sucks as blocker the worst and also doesn't know his assignments. Can't blame anyone for not going to TEs when they suck at the moment. I still have hope for Rodgers to eventually be very good #2 TE and FB.

We can attack middle with Cobb or Nelson or maybe both in 4 set. I'd like to see more of Janis on outside.

Looking at our schedule, there's not one game I see that I can chalk up as a loss. We got the road games in the division out of the way (other than Minny). The rest of our road games are at Miami, at New Orleans (which doesn't look as hard as originally thought), at Buffalo, and at Tampa Bay. The best team overall we have left to face is probably the Eagles, who might not be that good.

I still worry about our defense against New Orleans. If we get into a shootout with them it's probably whoever has the ball last wins.

We never seem to do well in Florida either, no matter how good we are or how bad our opponent is.

I think GB's defense is way better than the Saints. The Packers defense is pretty mediocre, but if they can get a lead, they do have some nice secondary pieces and 4 solid pass rushers. There's a mid-2000s Colts defense vibe.

We all needed this win for our own sanity. And the team needed it to get confidence going that they can still beat-down bad teams.
