We have a lot of guys who have been with the team quite awhile and as Mags said there really hasn't been any tension at all between coach and team. That's pretty rare. Winning helps of course. I don't take for granted the top notch organization we have from top down. Now let's win another damn SB.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

That stuff certainly matters, but you forgot to include Ted Thompson.

McGinn has written multiple times about just how well McCarthy and Ted get along both personally and especially important, agreeing 100 percent on team building philosophy.

Some head coaches after winning a ring can often want more say in roster construction. Want more veteran free agents brought in to win now.

That's not the case at all with McCarthy though and i think Ted values this a ton. Likes that McCarthy is totally fine with Ted having final say on all roster decisions even though i'm certain they discuss most roster moves. Really appreciates that McCarthy not only is ok with Ted's build almost entirely through the draft philosophy, McCarthy embraces that philosophy with a similar passion.

I can only observe Thompson from afar, but my gut feeling is that the above type of things are very important to him in a head coach. That McCarthy is so behind Ted's vision for team building/roster construction. That there are never leaks of say tension between the two over roster decisions or never negative leaks of any kind. That McCarthy stood so strongly behind Ted during the Favre/Rodgers situation. Trust between himself and the head coach strikes me as extremely important to Thompson, maybe even a little more so than for other GM's in the league and that being one factor why McCarthy is so highly thought of by Ted.

I never understand this line of thinking. Rodgers mechanics went through such a huge overhaul under McCarthy that it is foolish to not give him a lot of credit for the QB he is today.

So he's a good quarterback coach. That was established before he ever got here.

I understand giving him the extension because how can you not at this point? Especially considering how close he and Rodgers are and they have been a consistently playoff team(mostly 1 and dones) but I would not have been upset if Ted had let him expire and try to bring in a big name like Gruden/Cowher. McCarthy just does nothing for me as an in-game coach. I've seen no improvement from him in that aspect and I'm not sure how realistic it is at this point that he would improve going forward.
F*** Marc Davis, f*** Tim Donaghy and f*** David Stern as a staff, record label and as a mothaf**kin crew......and if you wanna be down with Stern then F*** YOU TOO!!! Stu Jackson f*** you too.....all you mothaf**kas F*** YOU TOO!!!!

Cowher was known for his playoff shortcomings as well until his final run as a 6 seed and the game has changed since he left.

In an alternate world, I do agree that I wouldn't mind seeing another coach, though. Won't happen.

The Packers have arguably the best and most stable "working relationship" amongst the 3 most important positions in a franchise: GM, Head Coach, Quarterback.

You don't mess that up, even if you think there's someone better out there.

Again, I like McCarthy as a "Head Coach." Just not as a play caller/game manager. The extension is fine. Predictable really. How do you fire a guy with his W-L record? You don't. Its never been done. And will never be. But lets not pretend that any one of a hundred current or ex-NFL Head Coaches wouldn't have received a similar extension if Aaron Rodgers was their quarterback. McCarthy is not special. He was at the right place at the right time. Good for him. Now go out coach someone, beat a team you're not supposed to, win a big game when your QB isn't perfect, stop being a smug, stubborn, prick, and appreciate just how lucky you are. If this organization goes 30+ years with Favre and Rodgers manning the most important position in professional sports, and only end up with two world championships to show for it, to take a phrase from "bros" everywhere, "EPIC FAIL."

Are there stories out there detailing this that I've missed?

It's amazing he spews this and then turns around and defends Roenicke. Baffling really. RR can only dream of being as successful as McCarthy has been in his career. The man made Aaron Brooks look like he belonged in the NFL. Roenicke walks into a situation with a prime Braun and Fielder and **** the bed in the end. Then watches this season as the team he is managing pulls off one of the worst collapses in recent memory. Woohoo. Push them buttons.
