Rodgers, Collins, Matthews, Raji, Nelson, Daniels, Finely, Jennings...he's picked some beasts but injuries and incompetence have really hurt the team.
Why not Ted Thompson? He is just as much the reason we have decent regular season each year and fall flat on our faces in the playoffs. His unwillingness to add experienced players or game changers in the off season has made us good but just not good enough. This same strategy has been going on ever since he got here. Too many inexperienced players filling holes that get's magnified when we get to the playoffs. It hasn't worked well to this point, what makes you think it will work next year or the year after that?
Here some examples over the years: Jared Allen (Openly says he wants to play for the Packers, no offer made to him and he signs with Minnesota. Randy Moss (Openly says he wants to play with Brett Favre. Is willing to sign performance based contract. Ted ignores him. Moss goes on to have the greatest season ever turned in by a wide receiver.) Tony Gonzalez( is offered to Packers for a third round pick when the Packers were in need of improvement at the TE position. Ted declines the offer. Gonzalez goes on to have two more pro-bowl years after that. Becomes arguably the greatest TE of all time) Jon Ryan (Thompson refuses to resign Ryan after he had to amazing season with GB. He sets Packer record for Yards Per Punt and even makes some resounding hits on special teams. Thompson elects to go with Derrick Frost who was God Awful. Every week people are wondering why the Packers don't cut him and bring in anybody else. Blame gets shifted to Special Teams coach and it takes 12 weeks before a change is made. Ryan goes on two be arguably the best Punter in the league for years to come.)
More recently we had Jordy Nelson go down before the season even started. What was Ted's solution, bring back James Jones who he had previously cut. Jones did ok but would have been a nice number 3 or 4 receiver not a starter. There were better options available but once again Thompson had to do it his own way which basically doomed an entire season. Now take this season, there were concerns about the experience and depth in the secondary coming into the season. What did Ted do? He added more inexperience and look what it has lead to. Every year we have a glaring need on this team and every year Ted adds more young players to fill those needs. The players he adds are just not ready to take on these major roles and it just doesn't work. Ted is also an arrogant (AXXHXXXX) He make these decisions because he wants to show the world he is smarter than the rest of us. Ted has said on more than one occasion publicly that he really doesn't care what the fans think or whether or not the fans like him. I think this statement pretty much speaks for itself.
A new era is needed in Green Bay. We need new people to bring class back to one oldest and proudest football cities in the country. The fans, who own the team, deserve better than this. The only true way to right the ship is for Mark Murphy, Ted Thompson, and Mike McCarthy to be sent packing. They are without class and don't take responsibility for what this team has become. I never saw as much booing as I heard two weeks ago at Lambeau field. I was loyal fan who lived through the Randy Wright, Anthony Dilweg, Lynn Dickey eras when the Packers were lucky to be 8-8 and the fans were not booing like they were last week. As a fan, it made me sick and it is time for a change. I hope someone with some balls on the Packers Board of Directors reads my post and starts the ball rolling.
Agree with everything except:
- TT and KC agreed on the terms for Gonzalez (a third), and then at the last minute, Carl Peterson pulled a bait and switch and asked for a second. TT said no, and Gonzalez was furious. That third was then used to trade up to grab Clay Matthews, so maybe that one worked out.
- I don't think he does anything to look smart. I think he's kind of a "religious fundamentalist" as it relates to building a team. He has rules in place and will never waver from them under any circumstance. It has served him well for the most part, but has bit him in the ass too (Moss, Lynch).
You are probably right about the Gonzalez mid-season trade. But even a 2nd round pick was worth putting a game changer on the field when you are competing for a championship. New England has no problem adding a few veterans with a good mix of young players. Ted has had 10 years to figure it out. I actually believe he knows we would be better served mixing it up but likes the notoriety he gets gets when we finds a few obscure players who end up performing well. I don't really think he cares if the Packers win a championship or not.
