Romo was great. I agree that he needs to learn not to step on Nantz or the crowd noise as much, but that comes with experience. What he does remarkably well is that he calls out plays before and as they're happening, and he actually sounds alive up there unlike his predecessor. He was a coup by CBS.

I think a good amount of the Romo love is also due to the fact that Phil Simms was arguably the worst color commentator in the history of North American sports. Roma's musings sound Shakespearean in contrast.

“Take your timeouts and stop the clock. In other words, if you don’t take those timeouts time goes off the clock.” (Minnesota vs. Arizona, 12/10/15)

“They actually changed terminology, Jim. In other words, they changed the way they call plays.” (Green Bay vs. Detroit 12/3/15)

“When your fingers can’t get to where the ball is, that’s what causes fumbles,” (Denver vs. Pittsburgh, 12/20/2015)

“When your fingers can’t get to where the ball is, that’s what causes fumbles,” (Pittsburgh vs. Seattle, 11/29/2015)

I generally dislike all of CBS commentators, pundits and whoever they throw in front of the camera, and Phil Simms was the worst of the lot.

Peyton Manning on Phil Simms once:

"He did text me after that, saying ‘Hey, sorry to drag your name into this.’ I wrote back, ‘Phil I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ He said, ‘Well on my show, Inside the NFL, I made this statement.’ I said, ‘Phil, I hate to break it to you, but I don’t watch your show, along with a lot of other people that I don’t think watch that show.’ Giving himself a little more credit than probably was merited."

I wasn't overly fond Romo's performance
only a fan, only an opinion
