I genuinely believe Wisconsin is the place where Mertz wants to be. He has a great relationship with Jon Budmayr, who was promoted to quarterbacks coach when Wisconsin added its 10th assistant. The value of those relationships can’t be overstated. Wisconsin was one of the first schools to identify Mertz’s talent and he really could be a game changer for the Badgers, who rarely land a quarterback of his caliber.

We'll see. There's a lot of time until he can actually sign for these other schools to work their magic. If Alabama really wants him that's such a hard offer to pass up imo.

If Tagavailoa looks like a star, future 1st round QB next season, Alabama is gonna be that much more appealing to college recruits. QB is the one position they've never really brought in NFL caliber talent.

On the flip side, it won’t be appealing because you know you’ll proabably have to sit behind him for at least a year.

Unless Mertz is a HOF talent, he's probably sitting a year behind somebody anywhere. Depending on how next year goes, he'd probably be stuck behind a few years of Coan or one year of RS senior Hornibrook.

Definitely going to be some pressure on Hornibrook and the offense to be more consistent, the defense isn't going to be able to totally bail them out next season.

Obviously expecting Hornibrook to play like he did against Miami is unrealistic, but if he can cut back on the INT’s, this could be the best offense since the Wilson year.

Will the Badgers have enough options at tailback? He proceeded to list 6 guys, so I'm going to go with yup. That was never a question.

Cornerback deserved its own category, maybe 2. That's the real big question. Don't know if they solved the problem. It's going to have to come out of the blue and they might have to get creative (give Bondoc a shot there, he's getting no love as a walk-on safety while the poster child is our current OC). Really wished they'd have gotten the CB transfer from Utah that went to Michigan instead.

Mertz stopped by Georgia when he was at a camp in Atlanta. Not a paywall site member but people are suggesting it's not a huge deal, but it's news nonetheless.

According to Greg Johnson of NCAA.com, the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a new rule for kickoffs, with fair catches anywhere inside the 25-yard line resulting in touchbacks and the football being placed at the 25-yard line.

Previously, touchbacks only occurred when the kickoff was fielded in the end zone.

Former SS recruit Colin Wilder is transferring to UW, where he'll start off as a walk-on. We offered him in 2015, but he went to Houston.

As one that has always trusted the UW football/basketball process, I think they'll be good, of course, and that they will always reload at positions where a lot of talent graduates...but, I do worry that CB will be the downfall. They've got several good, young prospects but I do think that they're an injury or underperformance away from being a trainwreck.

The somewhat lack of grad transfer-type activity makes me somewhat optimistic that they still like what they have but also could be that in college sports if you aren't Bama or OSU, you probably just have to roll with some weaknesses/risks some years.

Yesterday's news, but Mertz got a Clemson offer. We'll see how the next few weeks go as maybe he will decide to do some visits, but if he doesn't do one soon, I think he's staying with UW. He could go probably to literally any school he wants to play football and he's yet to take a visit elsewhere other than stopping by Georgia while he was in town. Seems like if he was being pulled away he'd be flirting with those other schools already.

Yeah, like you said, he hasn't done anything that would give the impression he's even considering any of these other schools, and basically almost every relevant power conference school has offered at this point. It's actually pretty crazy.

Nelson and Cichy made a mistake. Could have been part of a really special year and bumped their draft status.
