Nakia Watson. I liked what he showed. Looked quick on a few runs. Vision may not be good yet but looks like he has a bright future.

Boise State started a true freshman and just beat FSU, it can be done, PC will never do it though, too old school...

You're an idiot. If Mertz had outplayed Coan during practice, he would be starting.

Im curious if it was a close competition or was Mertz really that much worse. Maybe didnt know the playbook well.

Anyone have insight on this?

If Giannis would have outplayed Caron Butler in practice he would have started earlier too...that was the right decision...

Deja vu, you called me an idiot for ripping on Horni too and calling for Coan last year...

Coan was considerably better, apparently.

I think everyone who watches football will agree that Mertz someday will be the better player. This groundswell on twitter of, "play him now because he was a high 4-star recruit and therefore I'm a woke football fan and think he's really good right now" is the weirdest thing to me.

Jesse Temple has written about how Coan has been the most consistent since spring practice. Check him out on The Athletic if anyone wants the reasoning.

I don't think chryst would sit Mertz if he was better than coan. This has been said a thousand times here but colleges don't tank or sit the better player, especially to start the season. If Mertz was better then he would be starting. I think the consensus on this board is that Mertz will be much better than coan and has the potential to be the best qb since Russell Wilson but until he proves he's better than coan he's going to sit.
