Would’ve thrown for 500 yards if Mertz started.

That game was more important for Coan getting in a rhythm against a bad team at home if anything. Didn't have that opportunity unlike the typical UW qb until now. The longer throws and ones into gaps hopefully were confidence builders.

As for the performance by itself, CMU didn't have a win against the D1A last year, so take it w/ a grain of salt, no matter how dominant.

These games are so much more fun to watch now that we don't have a Joelff HorniStave under center.

Big game in two weeks. Badgers look hungry and fast on defense. Their receiving corps looks the best it's been, and they have a Heisman candidate. Wish the game was next week. Don't want WI to have a bye the way they're playing.

We were missing 3 defensive starters today. I'm fine with the bye week.

Not a fan of scheduling two clearly out-classed teams. I don't see that you learn that much from the experience. It would be a better test to at least have an opponent who belongs on the same field.

Annual reminder that college football is scheduled years in advance. Not sure when these games were signed but in 2017 Central Michigan was 8-5 (6-2 in MAC) and USF was 10-2.

Bit of a crap shoot with these ooc games. Teams can cycle up and down rapidly.

EDIT: I know the article says the game at USF was in 2017, but it didn't happen. Was rescheduled for some reason.

I don't love scheduling out-classed teams because too often they aren't actually out-classed at all.

But you gotta play someone so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

USF was not even supposed to be that bad this year. Part of this is that the Badgers (so far) have been really **** good.

They probably scheduled this noncon slate knowing that they'll have 4 really tough conference games and 3-4 more that are not easy. It's about as tough as you can get with current B10 scheduling.

There are admitted early season issues with these rating systems, but they're now #3 in Sagarin and TeamRankings...ahead of Ohio State.

Do I believe they're that good? No. They've beaten the **** out of a kind of bad team and a really bad team so badly that they are likely an outlier in the system. That said, ask the 30th best team in the country to win 118-0 against those teams. It's not like you can just wave your hand and make it happen. It's a good sign, regardless.
