I'm not sure how possible it is, but things like that need to stop ASAP. Division winners should get a berth into the playoffs, but they should not get a guaranteed home game in the WC round. Seeing the Cowboys/Eagles get a home playoff game against either the Niners/Seahawks really isn't right. Of course, I don't really think it would matter that much because I think the NFCW wild card team will mop the floor with whoever wins the East.
Disagree 100%. This way makes winning your division actually matter and quite important. That's a good thing.

(also never be so sure about "it not mattering this year". I remember a 7 win Seahawks team take out a much better Saints team)

I just think over a 16 game season, an average to below average team shouldn't be hosting a playoff game over a better opponent just because they won their division. It's not the Niners/Seahawks or the Packers/Vikings faults' that they play in a better division than the Cowboys or Eagles -- this year, the two wild card teams are probably going to finish three games better than the NFC East winner. And all the first WC team has to show for their really good year is a trip to Philadelphia or Dallas in the first round of the playoffs, all because they won their crappy division.

And yes, the 7-9 Seattle team took out the defending champs in the WC round. Primarily because they had HFA for that game. I don't think there would've been any chance in hell that the 7-9 Seahawks would've went into the Superdome and beaten the Saints that season. Of course the odds of defeating a better team improve when you're hosting them as opposed to playing them on the road, which is another reason why I don't really think an 8-8 or 7-9 team should be rewarded.

I know this is a classic "agree to disagree" argument too, but IMO, I think it's something that should be changed.
Yeah this is just a classic agree to disagree.

I just think that making division games more important then other games is a very good thing. Remove the win the Division to get a home game from the equation and division games take on MUCH less significance. A team around .500 hosting a 12 win team doesnt happen nearly enough imo to take that away.

Like does anyone actually care about Division games in the NBA? Probably not (if only for overall standings) but in the NFL division games are effectively worth more based on the onus placed on winning the division
