Tonights Game: September 1st
Turner Field | 3:55 PM ET
Mike Pelfrey, RHP (0-7, 5.92)
Mets (74-60) @
Chuck James, LHP (9-9, 4.22)
Braves (69-66)
Scouting Report:
Mets: Pelfrey will be promoted from Triple-A New Orleans to make his 10th start this season while still looking for his first win. Pelfrey last started with the Mets on July 28 in the second game of a doubleheader with the Nationals. In that outing, he allowed three runs in six innings and took a no-decision. Pelfrey won his first two Major League starts last July but is 0-8 since. Pelfrey has gone winless in his past five Triple-A starts, last earning a win with New Orleans on July 22. The Mets decided on Pelfrey over Philip Humber because of Pelfrey's experience -- Humber has pitched in just two Major League games, both in 2006.
Braves: James returns to the Atlanta rotation after spending two weeks on the disabled list to rest a dead arm. The Braves took the precaution because the left-hander has shown a tendency in his career to break down at this point in the season, and the fact that he'd posted one win in his past seven starts suggested that was happening again. James has been defeated by the Mets in both his meetings with them this season, having allowed nine runs (eight earned) in 10 innings.

We'll find a way to lose the sweep and only take two as usual.
Not sure why we can't ever get over the hump and just sweep these Mets. We blow yet another bases loaded, no outs situation.
Part of me is hoping the Mets can put us away and kill any false hope. It's officially football season now.

You predicted the Mets to win every series. This is probably the only one you picked them not to win. I predicted we'd win our 5th series of the year against you and the pitching matchups were certainly in our favor. I knew this series was going to tell us a lot, if we won convincingly like the previous series we'd still have a chance, if we laid an egg like we have over the last month or so we'd be done.
Luckily I have the Dawgs to ease my pain. Good luck in the playoffs, I think you guys might make it out of the first round.

Watching this team over the last several series, we don't have a chance. We have all these hitters and can't score, now Hudson has lost his last two games and the back end of our rotation isn't getting any better. Can't even lay down a bunt. There's always the chance that we get hot, but we have dug a hole that looks impossible to climb out of with no games remaining against the NL West and only 3 against the Mets.
We can't even beat Glavine anymore.

I said it before but JS should not have traded James for Dotel. He was a good #5. Even the Salty trade looks bad now (too much young talent - hindsight always 20/20). Better hope Teix re-signs (there will be lots of competition). Also, Renteria looks like a valuable chip since Escobar has emerged...
