Apparently we were so invested in Love that we called the Vikings and tried to trade up to 22 or 25 to draft him.

Ugh I'm dumber after reading that. Aaron Rodgers isn't able to elevate an offense without weapons? You've gotta be kidding me. Take weapons away from ANY QB and their numbers get worse. Look at Tom Brady's stats, before and after they got Randy Moss.

It's not like the offense was terrible last year, we were middle of the road in terms of points, and yards. We also had one of the best turnover ratios in the league. That's despite using hardly any draft capital on offense over the last 10 years. If you take someone like Kirk Cousins or Matt Ryan, and put them on the Packers - we have the worst offense in the league.

I think the article raises some interesting points, but I have to laugh at the "Tedford system" critiques getting drudged up again 15 years later. That reads more like a general criticism of how college QB's are now taught/developed more than anything specific to Jordan Love. Because as has been discussed earlier in the thread, these aren't some novelty or gimmick offensive schemes anymore. This is the way the NFL is trending, for better or worse.

Yeah I didn’t necessarily agree with it but it made me think of something I had never thought about before, so I shared it lol

Saw this posted elsewhere, but thought I would bring it here...change the name Love to Rodgers and it would read pretty similar. Makes me think the scouting was done by his Mom, but apparently it was a league wide service or something.

I wasn't keen on the pick, but that's moot now. If Love is reported as a tireless worker in practice (whenever that may be) and Rogers just treats him like another teammate, then much of the intermediate upset goes away for most fans. Eventually, of course, Love will need to perform as expected and that's where the scrutiny really resumes

I've seen sites that had him the 20th overall prospect, so it makes sense on a BPA basis.

I'd just assert that you don't trade up to draft the BPA unless he's going to be on the field next season, in at least some packages.

I don't think I've heard anyone bring up how Todd McShay had him going 6th overall to the Chargers in his last mock before the draft. I wouldn't say it was a Rodgers-esque slide but quite a few people had him going much earlier, so I'd easily buy the idea that Gute felt like he had to jump up once he fell within range of their pick.

It seems obvious with the trade up and the current situation of the team they had him ranked quite highly. Having watched him a bit, I could see how he could have been a top 10 pick.

In a vacuum, I really don't mind the pick. I was pretty shocked, but in a vacuum, there are plenty of reasons to take him if the FO evaluated him and really liked him. It's just the rest of the picks and overall strategy of the rest of the draft that sours it for me and I'm sure others.

Yeah that's where I'm at. I didn't love the overall strategy but honestly I don't really dislike any of the prospects.

Side note I wonder if loves draft stock was hurt a little by covid19, he's absolutely the type of guy who could have wowed a team in an individual workout.

His mock was also a little outdated since he came down with covid-19 but yeah this has the potential to be a steal.

I heard we were calling around there to trade up for Jefferson but didn't want to give up our second round pick.

So basically Love/Dillon or Jefferson/our fourth round pick. It will be interesting what would be better. Of course, post-draft rumors are just as believable as pre-draft rumors.
