I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I've been impressed how smoothly the line has handled Linsely's absences these last couple of games. I know they work on being able to change positions during practice, but game performance has been pretty damn good. Still, the depth is getting thinner as the season wears on. It would be good to get Linsley back soon.

First time in a long time that I'm gonna advocate for the firing of a coordinator mid-season though. You have Jaire playing like the best corner in football, you have a Top-3 pass rush trio in the league, and you have a Top-5ish DT in the league in Kenny Clark. You have elite play-makers at the three most important/impactful positions on defense. Sick of how pathetic and unprepared this defense looks week in and week out.

I was talking to my brother saying the SAME thing. It's not that there is a complete lack of talent on D.

Besides the elite level players there are some solid players surrounding them, not studs but fine starters as well. Yet we still have a really pathetic defense. Every team will have some average to below average guys mixed in between the studs and decent starters. Yet the scheme and defensive philosophy makes a cohesive unit. Yet for our D it doesn't matter. Same **** results. We have some elite players and some solid starters...but still garbage product.

You can tell the guys don't know what their assignments are here. That is damning evidence that the coaching on that side of the ball leaves a a lot to be desired. :nonono:

Feels like the Packers have about 5 of these a game for the past 15 years regardless of the players or coordinator. I'm cool with firing Pettine but I can't get excited no matter who they hire because the defense just always looks the same.

More than Kirksey pooched that play - his error was the most glaring. Clark got pushed to the inside, Z boxed out to the outside and then Kirksey frozen in time and space....

I don't think that's on Z at all. I'd guess his responsibility is to seal that edge, which is something he's struggled with some this year where he's guessed and crashed too hard.

Clark and Kirksey and possibly Savage seem to be the culprits.

We can all point to various plays and assign blame, but WTF are those alignments? It's one thing when guys miss reads and tackles, but the defensive scheme is just constantly setting them up for failure.

Yea the alignment is pure junk. That's losing before the ball is snapped

Pettine has been massively unimpressive. I mean, between Clark/Smith/Smith/Gary, you should be able to generate a pretty damn good pass rush and that hasn't happened. That's a lot of FA money and two 1st round picks. Then basically three first round picks in the secondary (King, Jaire, Savage) and a pretty hefty FA signing in Amos.

Some of our defensive ranks:

Rushing yards per attempt allowed: 24th
Yards per play: 17th
Turnover %: 20th
Net yards per passing attempt: 19th
Pressure %: 29th
Hurry %: 29th
Sack %: 13th
QB rating allowed: 26th

Our passing D, to me, based on Pettine's philosophy and our personnel, should be elite. You could argue it's not even average. He needs to go.

I don't care about stats. We've played prevent and given up garbage stats @MIN, @HOU, @SF, and vs. CHI which skews the numbers. The main thing is the eye test, and it's painfully obvious that this team can't stop the run. And this is after paying the Smiths, Clark, and drafting Gary to solidify the front.

Under Capers and his rug, the secondary was the problem with guys being left wide open all of the time. Now with Pettine, we've gotten better with that but get gashed every game. We need to bring in someone who just make us respectable in both areas.
