5 THINGS TO WATCH
1. SHUFFLING THE DECK: Should center Corey Linsley return Sunday — and there’s a decent chance he will — the coaches are going to have to make a decision how they want to line up on the offensive line. Linsley’s return would mean that Elgton Jenkins would return to left guard. After that, the decision comes down to whether the coaches want to return Lucas Patrick to right guard, move Billy Turner back to right tackle and put Rick Wagner on the bench, or put Patrick on the bench. The former would put the offensive line back where it was when Linsley got hurt. However, Wagner has played well in the three games Linsley has missed and Turner started at left guard all last season, so they might not want to break up that combination. Patrick had a rough game against the Panthers, giving up a pair of sacks, but he has been solid most of the year. Another option is to give Linsley another week to rest. The Titans rank last in the league in sacks and his return probably isn’t urgent.
2. STAYING DISCIPLINED: One of the things that Titans running back Derrick Henry can do to an overly aggressive defensive line is find cut-back lanes that lead him right into the secondary. Once he’s there, it’s hard for anybody to get him down because of his size and speed. Henry leads the NFL with 1,679 yards and 15 touchdowns on 321 carries and has had nine 100-plus-yard games, including two 200-plus-yard games. Teams want to stop him before he makes his cut, but if one linemen gets up the field too quickly, he’ll cut behind him. “Guys have to do a great job of doing their job, believing in what they see,” defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery said. “And then off of that, they do a great job with their play-action game. It looks identical to their first- and second-down run game. So, guys just have to be dialed in and more focused than ever.”
3. DAVANTE'S REVENGE: A week after being held to seven catches for 42 yards, receiver Davante Adams is going to see a lot more man coverage than he did against Carolina. The Titans live and die by single coverage, and they have allowed some top receivers to have big games................
4. SCOREBOARD WATCHING: Coach Matt LaFleur didn’t say he was going to turn all the televisions off in the stadium, but said he doesn’t expect his team to pay much attention to whether the Seattle Seahawks win or lose against the Los Angeles Rams................
5. DYNAMIC DUO: Assuming running back Jamaal Williams (thigh) doesn’t play, rookie AJ Dillon should be in line for more than a couple of carries this week..................
The writers were split on the winners, but everyone expects a high scoring game.
