So those of you who are excited for him to leave...

We've got teams like Tennessee, UCLA, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida, USC, etc. all suffering to varying degrees after a coaching shakeup. Teams that were once or still are on a much higher plane than the Badgers.

What is it about a coach leaving after 3 straight Rose Bowls that you are excited about?

The fact that he is a piece of **** human being. This all depends on who we bring in and whether we keep our recruits... but Bielema was a guy I was ashamed to root for. It was not coincidence that nearly all of his assistants bolted when Chryst left, or that we had 5 losses the year afterwards. The Rose Bowls have been great, but haven't seen any W's in the big games at the same time.

He is a very good recruiter, but he is a bad in-game football coach. I'm glad I don't have to put up with him anymore.

I can't believe I'm defending Bielema as much as I am, but is he really that much of a POS human being, especially in comparison to the rest of the country's coaches? Other than being a glorified frat boy, what is so bad? He ran what is assumed to be a clean program.

Carroll, Petrino, etc. don't even need explanation. Urban Meyer left Florida because he basically was disregarding his family it seemed like. There are a lot of these tools in the college football coaching landscape.

Daniels says he never thought Bielema would leave Wisconsin, but after speaking with him on Monday, knew he was mulling a move.

“I talked to him yesterday. He sounded down,” said Daniels. “He said he had offers in front of him and had some decision to make.”

“He had always said he wanted to retire at Wisconsin, but he took a lot of heat this year (5 losses). I don't think Bret has that kind of skin.”

You overstate Bielema's recruiting in the success of the program during his tenure. He was a very solid recruiter, but like Alvarez , go look at his recruiting classes from year to year since taking over, generally those classes were only ranked in that 3rd-6th area of other Big Ten teams. Yet, his teams often out-performed other programs with better ranked recruiting classes, also like Alvarez.

While he surely did struggle sometimes as an in game coach, what i think he did best was hire good coaches and then as an overall staff, Bielema and his assistants would develop the talent on hand well and put together teams which won a lot of games, including over programs with higher rated recruits or recruits roughly on the same level according to recruiting analysts.

That will be tougher to accomplish in the SEC West though where high school talent is better in the south and academic standards lesser, along with great programs like Bama and LSU. In the Big Ten it's easier to coach up solid talent into a good team and then beat up on teams who don't coach up solid talent as well.

Don't forget the very very long list of players who got arrested while Meyer coached at Florida. I remember reading an article about his tenure at Florida which talked about how Meyer preached values in the media, but that at the same time was consistently twisting the arms of higher ups at Florida to not make him get rid of productive players who were both regularly getting in trouble off the field and not going to class. That Meyer would also pull scholarships from kids who were working hard and actually going to class, but weren't productive on the field so Meyer could bring in other recruits.

Not gonna argue with that, there are a lot of scumbags out there. It's off the field, personal stuff about Bret that makes me conclude he is a crappy person. He is a drunk pervert womanizer, and never stopped even after he was engaged/married. Not a good reason football-wise, I know, but it made it hard for me to root for him and like him. Pair that with all of the in-game blunders he has had and there you have my dislike towards the guy.

That is true, but I think it had a lot to do with finding the "right kids" as far as kids who fit our system well, and finding late bloomers as well.

I can't see Alvarez throwing away his undefeated Rose Bowl record.

My money would be on that Chryst if he wants the job. Childress a possibility too, but I think Alvarez would know that would be an unpopular hire in this state. I don't think Bevell would get it.

Bielema ran a clean program, no doubt about that. I respected him for that.
