Hafley certainly won the press conference, let's hope he can win on Sundays too
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Here's the full Hafley presser for those who might have missed it.

I have no idea if Hafley's gonna be good or not, but the man can talk.

Read on Twitter

I'll give credit to AJ, that dude has gone above and beyond in ingratiating himself to all things Wisconsin. The guy was born and raised in the northeast US, went to BC, and here he is talking to the Badgers MBB (???) about how much he loves them and how he watches all of their games, etc. It's almost bizarre, albeit endearing in its own right.

AJ wants to stay. I just don't know if he'll be back.

Ngl, saw Badgers basketball tweet with AJ in text and thought you were in the wrong thread.

He really does seem to enjoy door county and the state in general. He has even encouraged other guys on the team to experience some things. It's a shame he couldn't build on his promising first year or two. He'd be a lifer if they wanted him.

He's just joining the staff as an offensive assistant. Not replacing anybody or changing anything.

He's an extremely impressive interview. He strikes me as being very intelligent. I had the same thoughts while watching his interview on youtube that was recorded like a week before he got the GB job when he was still technically at BC. He's clearly very smart and understands football. The question just becomes how well he can implement his vision and call plays.

I'm optimistic. He's exactly the kind of guy I wanted with his philosophy and his intelligence.

Just watched it and came away so impressed. That dude will be a head coach in this league, very authentic, very sharp and he gets the relationship stuff. Very excited to see what he does.

I can't see a big splash in FA this year with our cap situation but I'd expect a few lower to mid level defensive guys that Haf man feels comfortable fitting his scheme. Likely just guys, letting some of our just guys that don't fit what we want to do for other just guys that may fit better makes a ton of sense.

I'm really excited to see how our talent in the front seven adapts to new roles and (hopefully) better schemes.

Pete Dougherty's take on how Hafley will likely view Safety:

https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/nfl/packers/dougherty/2024/02/26/transition-on-defense-to-coordinator-jeff-hafley-means-safety-first-for-packers/72704145007/

I don't think any of this is a surprise.
Of all the challenges the Green Bay Packers face in transitioning to Jeff Hafley as defensive coordinator, the biggest is finding two safeties who can thrive in his 4-3 scheme.

But Hafley’s version of the 4-3 features a predominantly one-high safety look so, unlike the past when the Packers safeties were somewhat interchangeable, they’ll be looking for distinct skill sets in their single-high (post) safety and their bigger, more physical safety who will often line up nearer the line of scrimmage.

In his longer version, Hafley described his post safety as a sure tackler who dependably limits the damage when a run breaks free up the middle and who plays the ball well roaming the deep middle of the field.

In Dougherty's opinion, even if Savage were re-signed, it would be for a slot DB role, not safety, partly based on Savages size and skill set.

Regardless, the Packers will be starting over at safety, and the guess here is general manager Brian Gutekunst will sign one starter in free agency and use a high draft pick for the other.

The two most attractive free agents are Tampa Bay’s Antoine Winfield Jr. and the New York Giants’ Xavier McKinney. But one report last week said the Buccaneers are going to use the franchise tag on Winfield, and another said the Giants are seriously considering the transition tag for McKinney.
