Re: 2023 NFL Draft Discussion
If they did go defense, I wouldn't be entirely upset with Brian Branch. Can play all over the secondary and he would help out our tackling in a major way. On second thought... he's probably way too fundamentally sound for a Packers defense.

I wouldn't mind it, but I think the only for sure first round DB I'd be interested in as of now is Witherspooon.

The dream is Johnston in the first and Washington in the 2nd. But I wouldn't even hate if they went TE in both rounds.

Re: 2023 NFL Draft Discussion
Is Mayer a stretch the field type TE who is well rounded or is he more like Cole Kmet? If the former I’m down, if the latter, nah.
I like Trenton Simpson a lot as an OLB opposite Gary.

Mayer's not a burner but he does everything well. Great blocker, soft hands, excellent body control, and breaks a **** ton of tackles. I wouldn't be upset with him at all in the first.

Re: 2023 NFL Draft Discussion
Mayer plays a lot of in-line TE, like a supercharged Deguara, so he's probably not going to be stretching the field as a Kelce would. He'd be a great pickup for a guy like Jordan Love, who will utilize him more in the short to intermediate game.
I think Dalton Kincaid has a shot to be that big play receiver at the TE position from this draft. The more I watch him play, the more I like him.
Tucker Kraft is another TE I like in this draft in the middle rounds. He's a monster after the catch and hard to tackle.

I'll admit, I haven't seen enough Branch. That being said he got dusted for two touchdowns trying to cover Jalin Hyatt in their game against TN this year.
Speaking of which, why isn't anyone talking about Jalin Hyatt in round 1? No defense would be safe bringing safeties into the box if we had Hyatt and Watson at receiver.

Because of Heuple's offense. It's about the furthest thing away from an NFL offense as you can get. Hyatt mostly ran verts and rarely saw press coverage.

I thought Hockenson was way over hyped and I think Mayer will be over drafted as well.

I could see Hyatt struggling with press coverage, but he has legit track speed. Wouldn't surprise me if he's sub 4.3 at the combine. He has the production against SEC defenses to back it up too.

Re: 2023 NFL Draft Discussion
Biggest holes on the roster are going to be WR, TE, and safety.
This safety class looks pretty deep, would prefer to hit that later in the draft.
Assuming we are moving forward with Jordan Love it is absolutely imperative that we get him some weapons. Watkins and Doubs are great but they both missed time with injuries last year and the cupboard is bare behind them.
My wet dream scenario is a trade for Kyle Pitts. ATL has mis-used him and he's two years into his deal now - pick #15 might be enough for them to listen.
Given this information I fully expect Gute to spend all of our picks on the front 7 defense LOL. That unit just needs to hope the players we have get better.

Agree with the first thoughts as the priorities. Pitts would be a plus, but Atlanta probably still wants too much for him - as in a Love for Pitts deal.... They need a QB, though I don't see that happening
I'd also add - depending on whats done about Bakhtiari and Preston - another OT and Edge. The Tackle due to the normal attrition that group goes through every season and the Edge if Preston is a CAP casualty, then its basically a recovering Gary and Engabare. Gute said the nice blather about wanting Bakhtiari back, but what's the reality?

I'm usually hesitant to play the "you need to draft skill position" in the 1st round card, but if Rodgers is (hopefully) gone, then Addison or Johnson at 15 makes too much sense for me to pass on. Starting the Love era with two blue-chip receiving weapons like Watson and Addison should make his life a lot easier. #1 potential type receiver or bookend Tackle. Take your pick.

Drafting a WR in the first round as soon as Rodgers is gone would be pretty humorous too.

Re: 2023 NFL Draft Discussion
How do people rank Johnston, Addison, and Jaxson?
I would have to take Johnston first personally even though I think he has a little lower floor, if he hits you have two 6-4+ freaks to work with and Doubs comes in as a great #3.

Johnston's the only 1st round WR on my hypothetical board right now.

Re: 2023 NFL Draft Discussion
1. Johnson
2. Addison
3. Smith-Njigba
Johnson, I would for sure take in the first round. I'd consider Addison as well, but I do worry about his size. He's not overly fast either, but he's that smooth, crafty route runner that finds a way to get open.
I think there are some good WRs in the middle rounds that I think Gute could poach from. Andrei Iosivas out of Princeton looks like a Christian Watson clone. Charlie Jones from Purdue, Zay Flowers out of BC, and Rashee Rice from SMU are some of my favorite day 2/3 wideouts.

Re: 2023 NFL Draft Discussion
Flowers is the guy I may end up being comfortable with at #15 by the time the draft rolls around. He's a stud and on another level athletically from JSN and Addison.
