I'm just impressed some of y'all still have the fire to be mad about this team. I've been in apathy mode for weeks.

If Cooks is available for a Day-3 pick and the Texans can eat some of that salary, then that's about as far as I'd go for mortgaging any future picks for a rental. He fits a need profile (slot guy) even if he's not as explosive as he used to be.

Yeah we wouldn't want to miss the chance to draft this star-studded cast:

(List of all 2-4s since 2016-2021; 6-12% chance to draft a difference maker)

Spriggs
Fackrell
Martinez

Josh Jones
M. Adams
Biegel

J. Jackson
Burks
J. Moore

E. Jenkins*
Sternberger
Keke

Dillon
Deguara

Myers
Amari Rodgers
Newman

Yeah, you're big mad we didn't spend draft picks to get a shiny new deck chair on the Titanic. We all get it, dude.

Yeah, I am annoyed that this "draft and develop" team actually sucks at drafting and developing and doesn't know that it does.

We get your management propagandist role too. Maybe you'll be right about something at some point.

Agreed...

But, to my mind, there's also an implicit acknowledgment of a complete whiff on the season's plan

Maybe, but they are even right now and both are likely to be no better than 7 win teams. Not sure one pick will be much different than the other in the end.

Would you rather bet against Rodgers with Claypool or Justin Fields?

I really didn’t see Claypool as being a turnaround piece for the season, but Chicago seems to be gelling a bit quicker offensively than the Packers right now.

They just traded away Roquan Smith and Robert Quinn....... but sure, gelling.

More importantly, so would the Packers rather do nothing always and ever more.

Doing nothing in the pick-for-a-player trade market is a prerequisite for getting the Packer GM job.

All energy must instead be devoted to fulfilling the draft and develop, draft and develop, draft and develop mantra.

Even better, by ignoring the possibility of a player trade that might bolster the roster, Gutey and his minions get a head start every year on scouting that next 3rd round steal rather than having to waste time attending a Super Bowl in early February.

Yep, making an Excel chart with all the prospects RAS scores is time consuming.

Then what was your actual point? A draft pick hinges on the win column.

Both teams stink, I thought it was obvious.

I'm not saying you don't but you seem to be neglecting the original question. Let me rephrase. Who would be a better bet for the higher draft pick?

The Packers with a shiny new receiver.

Or the Bears with Justin Fields on a team who just dealt away two defensive cornerstones?

Oh they are delusional alright. What direction are they going in? Can anybody answer that?

The Bears D was already bad and yes losing those two guys makes it worse. I get it.

Yes, on paper Claypool should make the Packers better, but the team is one Detroit loss away from completely imploding, with or without Claypool.

I won’t be surprised if either of the teams 2nd round picks are that much far apart.

ETA: this was supposed to be quoted in my convo with skones. I’m battling Covid brain hardcore this week, sorry.

Would be very curious to know what the plan for 2022, 2023 and 2024 is right now within the Green Bay front office.

Plus, there's a kind of wifty logic for the Bears. Quin and Smith were likely gone after the season anyway - one way or another. Claypool gives whoever claims to be in charge down there, a tool to better evaluate if its also time to fish or cut bait on Fields. He's had no weapons, no line (sounds familiar....) and also no track record with help.

The team is straight up bad right now. I like Claypool because he's still young, but people are losing their minds over not getting a mediocre WR like we're a piece away from being a contender. Our OL is a mess. Our defense is vanilla af. Those things concern me way more and they likely won't be fixed midseason

I get it, a guy like Claypool isn't moving the needle. But we went into the season expecting Doubs, Watson, Walker, and Wyatt to...move the needle.

Well the needle moved... just not the direction they hoped :)

Come on now, get on board with the get behind management at all times sentiment, and understand this was not a season in which the Packers were expected to actually compete for a Super Bowl ... while paying a soon to be 39 year old QB $50,000,000.

This was always supposed to be a re-build or re-set year, right?
