Whoa, headed for the Super Bowl, hard to believe not a single NFL defensive player has laid a glove on Jordan Love all season! Untouched! This late in the season! Testament to the NFL-dominating Travis Glover and kadeem Telford! [*apologies TG, KT]
Srsly, how long without taking a serious hit. How long? half a season? three games? half a game. One series.
Just pay Malik Willis and then watch it pay off.
Also, you know what Gute will do with an extra 2nd round pick as well as everyone else here. He'll draft a relatively unknown qb who while promising is totally unable to fill in due to being as unready as Michael Pratt, what with zero experience and having proven nothing on an NFL field. Unlike Willis.
And it'll cost us.
You want to pay Willis to stay in Green Bay and be a back up? Unless he plays in regular season games this year and looks terrible he is going to get more than the Packers can afford to pay. Very few teams can afford to pay a back up good money unless you have either a journeyman staring QB or a QB on a rookie contract. Also there is no chance Gute would use a 2nd round pick on a QB next year unless Love had a serious injury.
I am fine letting Willis play out the season and hopefully signing a big contract somewhere and the Packers get a nice comp pick. I would also trade him for a 2nd right now and maybe a third. MLF had a great game plan for Willis so he didn't have to do much. Plus it was against a couple of bad teams.
Packers are under no obligation to do it that way. Keep him as long as we can, pay him what we can;
gifting him to rival teams is reckless and dumb. Minimizing how well he played, and going out of your way to make excuses for denying how well he played, is a good way to lose a lotta football games for no reason. By that kinda asinine logic, give away ALL our players because SURE they played good, but guess what,
Matt LaFleur drew up plays for all of them.
So pay him to be a player that hopefully never sees the field. Good call
Also unless Willis sees the field and looks like absolute garbage why would he want to return as a backup instead of signing with a team he has a chance at starting for?
Unless he plays and looks like crap hes gone after this season. Wrap your head around it cause hes most likely gone after this season
And who the **** said anything about "gifting him to a rival team"? He suggested a day 2 pick. That's hardly gifting him away. That's fetching a hell of a return on investment. And exactly when did the **** Jets (and AFC team mind you) become a "rival"? For Christ's sake if they could get a 2nd from a team for him they damn sure better take it
And finally it wasn't too long ago that Willis looked like a guy who was going to be out of the league untill MLF got a hold of him and created a gameplan to make him into a guy who was able to steady the ship for a few weeks. He absolutely deserves credit and it absolutely is valid to be skeptical of how he'd look if needed to be relied on for a much larger portion of the season
"Pay him and watch it pay off". I can't believe someone actually posted that with such certainty about a backup QB who quite literally only has less then a handful of games under his belt where hes looked like a legitimate NFL QB
Im actually of the camp that doesn't want to trade him and just get the comp pick next season but good **** lord if some team wants to send us a 2nd or a 3rd im helping pack his bags
