I know you can't tell much from the airport and stuff but I'm not sure I would take any amount of money for LSU. Baton Rouge looks depressing as hell.

What blue blood SEC school isn't in some depressing town? Texas?

Tennessee, Vanderbilt, not sure what OKC is like but Norman is close enough to maybe be decent, Fayetteville is nice, both Columbias are ok.

Lived in Athens for four years. Was very, very not for me but people **** love that place. Campus is beautiful and it's a little over an hour from Atlanta. I know people at Auburn and they think it's a great place to be.
Different strokes/folks. Worth acknowledging most coaches and families probably have different priorities than a college kid.

I wonder how many coaches went with him.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Virginia whipped Duke by 17 at Duke and are now only favored by 2.5 in the championship game? What am I missing?

Sure its fine, but people love those cities because they are probably diehard college football fans. Id imagine most college coaches are in a gated community where the reality of most SEC school cities won't matter to them.

Re: College Football Discussion - Franklin to Virginia Tech
Big 10 Champ will be #1 seed. Loser will likely be #3 with Georgia moving up to #2 with a win against Bama. Tech would round out the top 4 with a win over BYU. Georgia and/or Tech losing losing could open the door for Oregon to move up but I can't see them giving the B10 3 of 4 byes. But Oregon is currently #5, TAM #6 and Ole Miss is #7.

Norman is probably equivalent to something like Waukesha. There is a whole corridor stretching north/south down I-35 between Edmond and Norman that's roughly an hour drive and contains like 2 million people, but if you drive 30 min east or west from the highway, there is nothing. Nobody is living poorly if you're one of these coaches, but it's probably better than most just because of the proximity to an actually big city.

I've been to Baton Rouge and Oxford for games so spent a few days in each. Funny one of them was LSU at Ole Miss a few years ago for that crazy shootout. I wouldn't really describe Baton Rouge as awful by any means, especially compared to much of the rest of the south once you get out of a major city. Driving around the south in these areas (especially MS/AL), the rural areas are really like the stereotype you see on TV, shacks and dirt roads. BR compared to Tuscaloosa and Oxford, BR definitely wins. And BR being a capital city there is just going to be much more to it, population in the 250-300K area. Oxford otoh is a population of like 25K (not counting the students). It's middle of nowhere podunk. Of course to each their own, but in general Baton Rouge is by far the better place to live. Then football-wise LSU has all the other advantages.
That said, if I'm Kiffin I would've stayed at MS and been the hero there rather than another job bounce and being the jerk, especially in this playoff situation right now. Keep winning at least 8 games and he has security forever and loved there, plus he genuinely seemed to like it there the last few years. Don't win at least 10 in LSU and you're on the hotseat. And with all his past issues, its probably best to be off the radar in the middle of nowhere a bit rather than the pressure cooker of LSU.

Re: College Football Discussion - Franklin to Virginia Tech
Yeah I know what the South is like. I was heading back to Nashville from the Smokies a few yearss ago and there were like 3 accidents on I-40 so we're like let's get off the interstate and take some back roads to get past the accidents and then hop back on. We got off I-40 just past Knoxville and it immediately turned into Deliverance.

Right, and that's where Oxford is. The outskirts or "suburbs" of Oxford are essentially that shack/dirt road world. Then they have one little downtown with the campus and that's it.

It's honestly kinda like that in Nashville too. Granted there is a ton of new builds going on but you get about 15 minutes outside of Nashville and on one side you see a new or relatively new subdivision and on the other side are just run down houses, dirt/gravel roads. I have not been a fan of anywhere I've been to in the South overall.

Re: College Football Discussion - Franklin to Virginia Tech
I also hate the south. We truly couldn't get out of there fast enough. The list of things I like about the south begins and ends with the word y'all.
Yet it's stupidly populated and full of people who love some semblance of quaintness - not just in its few big cities. Wondering why people would choose to live in these cities is the same stuff we hear from NYC/Chicago/LA crowds about why anyone would want to come to Milwaukee or Minneapolis or whatever.
Honestly, aside from Louisianna being a **** swamp, Baton Rouge is probably one of the SEC cities I'd least hate personally living in.

Yea not being there you probably don't have a grasp of how podunk and small Oxford is. I had no idea, then was walking around like wtf how small is this so looked it up and its 25K. The stuff you're describing is Oxford. It's not that Oxford is a city like Nashville/BR and around it is the small rural bs. Oxford is the rural BS, but with a football stadium. Its basically one intersection bar/restaurant type area that isn't the rural bs.

My dad used to dream about moving to the south and then we had to drive to Mississippi and back (staying one night) I have not heard that man say one word about anywhere south since.

Charleston is one, maybe the only, southern city I'd live.

Fox owns the rights to the B10 title game. Last year they sold it to CBS. This year Fox is keeping it. They've sold next year's to NBC. Now NBC is looking to sell it, potentially to Prime for up to $70 million. But Fox has to approve NBC selling it to Prime or anyone else. Messy lol

I'd be asking why something like the B1G or SEC title game is worth anything when you know all four schools will always get into the playoffs.
