As for Bama, "don't penalize for playing the conference championship game" but how can there be zero consequences for their abysmal performance yesterday. Ridiculous.

I wonder if teams on the bubble would ever decline going to a conference championship game so they wouldn't possibly get penalized for getting blown out.

It would just move the goal post (pun intended) so that 17/18 are controversial. I can't believe we talk about this every year with every sport that has selections - no one ever learns

Miami, yes. They lost to Louisville and SMU. Miami could lose to anyone.

Not convinced it would have helped them this year necessarily (though maybe/I didn't think super hard about it), but I do still think it's inevitible for ND to join a conference. They've held out way longer than I expected, though, so who knows.

If they were in the ACC this year they probably make the conference title game and win it and that gets them in.

Oh that's fair - ACC for sure. I still think about them joining the B10. That's what I always thought was most likely despite the basketball ties to the ACC, but with how the conferences shook-out for football ACC makes way more sense now.
