I honestly couldn't care less about a Rose Bowl victory unless it comes in a situation where either team has one loss or less.

I'll take zero satisfaction if the Badgers win this year's Rose Bowl (which I think they will). It's pathetic that they're in the game.

I just see that as an unrealistic target. I would love him, but he's got it made in Boise. Great college town, no competition consistently in great bowl games. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm sure every program with a HC vacancy has given him a ring.

The burden of proof is on you here. I'm guessing your case is pretty weak. But to condone wanting a guy gone that has never finished outside the top 4 in the Big Ten or missed the tourney, and has basically established a top 16 national program while running it cleanly, and has his best recruiting classes coming in soon, is an amazing comment.

I can understand your argument for consistency, but I just personally believe he's at his ceiling as far as tournament results and desire something more. There's really no need to bring the hostility in a friendly place like this.

Before they rolled NU I had a similar opinion, but they lost three games in OT and then ended the season strong. It's unrealistic to even talk about a national title POSSIBILITY most years. Granted, that will change some with the institution of a playoff, but it still takes almost everything going right.

There's a college basketball thread on the Bucks board. Bo has been a topic there quite often.

The Badgers have been given permission to and have contacted Mel Tucker, Jaguars defensive coordinator, apparently.

There's a name no one has thought of. That's actually pretty intriguing. Has a great track record of having good defenses and used to work under Saban at MSU and LSU. Obviously he is a former Badger as well.

And I'm going to say it because I think it's true (hopefully nobody goes racist on me), I think an African American head coach has an advantage, all things being equal, in terms of recruiting.

But the things I've read on Tucker schematically I like. Defensive minded guy.

Mel Tucker was one of the first names I heard when this broke. Obvious connections. Will likely not have the kind of pick up and go power of a name college coach, but NFL experience can help.

Little birdies saying BB wants to win an MNC and given this was not happy with the assistant coaches he could hire due to salary constraints.

Good luck with that in the SEC, but I also see his point if true.

Heard facilities mentioned as well, although UW is upgrading quite a bit. i guess I am a little surprised that UW is not paying the going rate for assistants, although Chryst (the real reason this program was successful) was one of the highest paid O-coordinators. Personally i don't care BB is leaving, he did well, but had a number of factors saving his a$$...1) Chryst 2) Barry protecting him with easy non conference games. I think BB's record against top tier Big Ten opponents wasn't all that great.

We have never paid our assistants well. This goes back to BA coaching era. Wisconsin is among the bottom of the B10, yet we expect to compete amongst the top of the B10. We've been lucky, but it doesn't really work that way.

Yep. Was going to say this when I saw that post.

My dream hire would be Pat Fitzgerald, but I'm coming around on Chryst as the more realistic possibility. Pitt definitely had their moments this year beating Va Tech, Rutgers, and getting robbed vs. Notre Dame. We know his offense works well enough in Madtown and he's certainly aware of our unique recruiting dynamic. The worst thing to do would be to hire some goof from the south who thinks the answer to us becoming a national champ contender is to focus on the SEC or Big 12 country and run a spread. Chryst could bring over Rudolph, Bollinger, etc. And we would hopefully maintain the current defensive coaches to keep our recruits on that side of the football where we've done well this class. Chryst's DC was Dave Huxtable, who is ancient. He can just retire.

Fitzgerald would be great. Don't see him leaving his alma mater though.

Grabbed this on another forum, not sure of the source, but it is regarding Mel Tucker.

The rumor is he has already been asked to interview. Good for Mel. Great gig for him.

I think he interviews this week, helps gameplan/coaches Sunday, announced Monday/Tuesday.

Again, not sure of the actual original sources, but I grabbed it from a trusted mod on another forum.

Apparently Purdue just hired him.

I could get behind Tucker. He has a very solid resume throughout football and has obvious UW connections.

Tucker sounds really good to me. My worry would be about him bolting back to the NFL

He would have to be successful to go back to the NFL, which is a good thing. I personally prefer to hire offensive coordinators as head coaches, especially those that develop QB's, because even in a power running offense QB's dictate how good you can actually be. So I believe any D-coordinator Barry would hire would have to bring a pro style O-coordinator with him.
