He really does seem to make so much sense for us.

Hope AJ spends a little more time working out and sleeping rather than burning the midnight oil playing Fortnite.

Dillon makes perfect sense. He knows the system and he might be motivated by the "prove you actually belong in the NFL" offer, which hopefully was a wake-up call for him. I strongly suspect that conditioning was a big part of the issue last year, so while he was objectively terrible, at least there's an obvious and relatively easy way to improve on that and be more like the player he was in his second season. Now whether he actually trains more effectively and is ready to run hard starting in week 1 is anyone's guess, but I choose to view it as a worthwhile low-cost gamble.

Yeah, this doesn't preclude us from drafting a RB in the first 3-4 rounds at all, it's just weird. Don't care what his PFF score said. He was bad last season.

I feel like its not totally impossible Gute told Dillon's agent "sure he can come back but we're only offering a minimum" as a courtesy fully expecting him to find a better deal elsewhere and wasn't expecting him to actually accept.

Yea it's essentially a nothing deal from Green Bay's side. In theory they could cut him and not owe anything although I'd bet on him making the 53. If there is a RB they like in the draft this doesn't preclude them from taking that player but they also don't need to draft a RB if they don't like the value. Jacobs/Dillon/Wilson is a solid RB group as is.
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

I wanted a speedy PPR type back like Sproles on 3rd downs not this slow scrub. Quite puzzling, better be drafting one next month...

I would have expected him to go elsewhere. I hope he thins out a bit over the offseason since he isn't a power back. Maybe he'll get some of his burst back.

We still might and i really hope we do but I'm sure Gute wants to have his bases covered to maximize his draft day flexibility. I would've just preferred that insurance to be almost anyone besides Dillon.

After seeing the contract it’s not terrible but I sure hope he’s utilized like he’s paid which should be barely at all. There’s no compliment to Jacobs there, just a spell role for Jacobs needing a series off when he’s gassed. Maybe Dillon can have a series or 2 he can soften up the defense throughout a game and fall forward for a 1st down or 2. I’m not holding out hope for anything more, nor should the Packers be expecting anything else. Still need a change of pace RB and someone with some real juice, that’s never gonna be AJ Dillon.

I have a hard time seeing how anyone can be upset by this now. It doesn't stop you from drafting anyone and if he gets beat out by Wilson and/or anyone drafted they can cut him with no ramifications.

Hell I don't think there's a player in FA I wouldn't give that deal too. There's zero risk

This is the equivalent of a big league camp invitational type deal in baseball. He's been productive and had a bad year. Literally no downside to seeing if last year was an anomaly.

The only real downside after seeing the contract is if it makes Green Bay complacent in finding another more dynamic back in the draft. I’m not too worried about that knowing that Gutey values “competition in every room”, which honestly, is a great way to get the best out of folks. Dillon may also offer some comfort to the staff in pass pro, which may not be a strong suit of any incoming rookie RB.

Nah, that was predictable. Figured he would hit the market, get no offers and stay for a 1year prove it deal.

But AJ needs to stop gaming so much during the season, it's hurting him.

I get the feeling with Dillon that he’s almost too nice of a guy for the NFL. The definition of a “looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane” type. We’ve been begging him to truck dudes for a few years now and only saw it a few times his rookie year (*cough* titans game in the snow!) I hope that something clicks with him this year; maybe it’s Jacobs coming in, maybe it’s, oh I don’t know, THE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS he could earn if he took it seriously, or maybe its even the realization that he’ll be not only out of Door County, but out of the league Eddie Lacy-style if he doesn’t man up a bit and put in the time required to be successful. I hope it does happen for him, because he genuinely does seem like a good person.
