I hate this pick as much as anyone here.

The problem now is the structure of the roster is awful.

We have some great players - Rodgers, Davante, the Smiths, and if you assume you resign Bahk / Clark / Jones next year for say 36 mil total / year, and a cap of $220 mil, that's 56% of your cap.

The next 5 guys are Amos, Turner, Lowry, Kirksey, and Wagner - there's 18% of your cap. The odds of any of those guys making a pro bowl is 0 percent.

Then you need to find a center and a corner back because you can't afford to pay Linsley or Kevin King (which you probably shouldn't pay anyways). That's assuming you draft a WR and a MLB who turn out to be guys who can play right now this year.

This is a problem because we haven't been able to find guys who can make a difference in the 1st round for some time.

Now we draft a guy who's going to sit for 3 years? What are we trying to do with the back end of Rodgers career here?

The $hit eating grins on Lafleur / Gutes face tells you they think they just drafted Patrick Mahomes 2.0.

Still time to make this right for Rodgers and the team as a whole - need a WR, and we need someone who can help this team stop the run. Let's see what they do today.

Another R-E-L-A-X-ing perspective to take is that if the last 10 years of GB first round picks is what we’re missing out on by taking a QB, we’re not missing much. Aside from the Clark and Alexander years, might as well have taken the top QB.

Andy Herman says it well. I’d add 2018 but yeah, Sherrod, Harrel, Datone, Randall, Haha. Nick Perry though he got a second contract. Gary so far (though I still am fine with that pick, give him another year at least to show his ability). Savage (though that was an injury issue that’s not long term).

Looking back at the Packers 1st round picks, yeesh we've wasted a lot of picks over the years.

I like Love more than Herbert and we got him 20 picks later. If Love can fix his read progressions and try to not play hero ball, he's got all the arm talent in the world to be a pro bowl QB.

Sad the Tim Boyle era is over.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

We've gotten tremendous "immediate impact" out of 3 of our last 4 1st round picks (Clark, Alexander, Savage). I legitimately have no clue why so many people whine about this every single draft season.

Easy to have hot takes when you can't be proven right or wrong for 3 years.

And I'm not saying those who hate the pick are wrong. I'm pretty much in the middle on this one. I think a majority, here and elsewhere, hate the pick.

My last take on this - and I'm not trying to justify this pick, I hate everything about this.

I could make the argument that Jace Sternberger would have been a 1st round pick in this draft had he stayed. Given he didn't play last year - if he plays like a 1st round pick this year (which I think is possible), this hurts less.

Not that it will matter much beyond Boyle and his family(which does count), what happens with Boyle in GB? Whenever things do get rolling again, I'd guess he's gone. Does he even have value for a future 7th round pick?

I don't see them keeping 3 QB's.

I have a feeling a lot of people will warm up to this pick after they slept it off.

I graded this pick on Love as an individual prospect, (way too soon to tell. He's another developmental guy).

You could/should grade Gute on his pick performance at the end of this draft, Has he improved the team sufficiently and for the right time window?

Basically everything is playing out the same way it did with Favre...people wanted more weapons for Favre and the majority of the WRs in that range were busts. They got Jennings the next year and played in the NFC title game, should've played in the Super Bowl 2 years later.

I have no idea, I'm 99.9% sure this won't turn out as well as Rodgers and obviously it's even a stretch to think Love will turn out somewhat well...but I like the raw talent. I'll take this.

We lost by 1000 to the 49ers and weren't really as good of a team as our record last year, thousands of fans berated Rodgers' fading play last year...but now we were just a WR or (tiny) ILB away.

This isn't staunch support of the move and I'm shocked they did it but I'll also listen. Put me on the Love bandwagon.

Only way this pick makes sense is if Love is a top 5 QB. Otherwise you could have picked a QB in 2021 or 2022 to be an average QB.

Queen will be a stud and we passed on that. Who will have the better career/impact? Queen or Love?

I think there is a lot to this observation. This feels like a Mark Murphy move, explaining to Gutekunst and staff that the season isn’t opening on time, there won’t be fans in Lambeau, and that they might as well use that environment to bring in A-rods replacement in that environment.

Personally I don’t feel like this team was one or two players away from the Super Bowl. Whether this was the right guy, who knows. His arm looks amazing, his footwork in the pocket looks a little too jerky.

If there's one thing I do agree with it's that this probably puts some more pressure on Gary to pan out. But if you come out of the last 3 1st rounds with an All-Pro DT, a franchise Cornerback, and a rookie Safety who's an immediate starter, then you've successfully spent a damn good amount of high draft capital on "immediate impact/NFL-ready" players.

There's still a plethora of WR targets with 1st round grades available. Josh Jones has a Top-20 grade from most mocks I've seen, and he's still there as well. Plenty of "immediate impact" still available to satiate the angry local radio callers because contrary to their beliefs, the draft is more than just the first 32 picks.

My hot take on Gute: he must have a rock solid assurance on job security from Murphy to spend his two top picks in the last two years on developmental guys (Gary& Love). To be sure, Savage was a solid pick. With a narrow and closing SB window for a Rogers led team, That's a very high risk path

Yeah I think there is a massive element to not playing a season or playing a discredited shortened/no fan season. You probably have 2-3 "he can still be pretty good" seasons out of Rodgers and after that it's anyone's guess. Well you've just lost one of them either fully or partially.
