Watching his press conference, I don't know if I want to respect Bakhtiari or punch him in the face.

I think they end up franchising Aaron Jones. If nothing else that's a 1 yr 10 mil deal.

King is gone. As good as he is, he can't stay on the field and someone is going to pay him stupid money.
Is that what the tender really is right now for a RB? I'm seeing a lil over 12 for that. Realistically though I don't see that as a viable option. If he gets tagged he counts 12 million against the cap. No questions asked versus a multi year deal where his initial cap number could be signifactly less.

I might be in the minority on this but I don't think King is necessarily gone. Hes one of the mid tier guys that are going to be hit hardest with the lowered cap. The elite guys will still get paid but players in Kings ball park will feel the pinch so I wouldnt say its close to a lock some team is going to offer him big money. Admittedly it only takes one team

Looking at salary cap. Only way to keep Aaron Jones is we have to cut or trade Dean Lowry and/or Billy Turner.

Dean to me is not worth his contract. Billy on the other hand has proven it.

Hopefully we can do some restructuring.

Looking at the numbers it's really a 3 yr extension, highly doubt Bak makes his $20 mil base that last season.

I'd still like to keep Jones and Lindsey. Cut Lowery, Preston, for sure. Then one of Turner or Wagner, probably Wagner because turner's ability to play all over is nice. Then I'd say guys like Amos, Kingsley are potential casualties.

Let King walk assuming he actually plays soon and well and gets a decent deal. If he was willing to do a short prove it deal then that could be a different story.

I like it when good players get paid lots of money to play for my favorite teams. Congrats to David, this rules.

Better to root for players than management.

Surprised they broke the bank for Bahk, but not exactly stunned. Franchise tackles are usually worth every penny. See ya Kevin King (and Linsley, and Jones).

Gute is really good at spending money on players drafted by other GMs.

I didn't watch it, but I felt the same way reading some of his quotes from the recap. Talking about how he needed to be the highest paid lineman in NFL history rubs me the wrong way if he's also all about winning and remaining a Packer.

Well the very first draft pick he made (Alexander) is going to get a gigantic contract when his time comes.

Now I'm not defending his hit or miss draft record. Honestly he's been better at finding depth guys off other rosters like Sullivan, Lazard, Ervin than he has been picking college players.

screw that he's better than tunsil and deserves to get paid more than tunsil. if someone worse than me got a promotion or got paid more than me at my job, i'd be pissed. end of the day it's a business and the employee, in my opinion, is well within their rights to get what they feel they deserve.

I don't disagree with that. Saying that you think you needed to be the highest paid lineman in NFL history as a starting point in any conversation is a bit much IMO. What Bill O'Brien did probably shouldn't be the benchmark of value for anything.

Agreed - but as a player that just saw someone become basically the highest paid player at his profession, bakh was fine with that as a starting point.

It's just sort of an unwritten rule to not publicly say "it's all about the money." And Bak made it very clear that it WAS all about the money. Blatantly so. That rubbed me the wrong way. Deserve has nothing to do with it. Just a personal observation on my part.
As far as comparing it to your personal job, it's apples and oranges. We aren't talking about the difference between $50,000 and $55,000, we are talking about the $100 million dollar neighborhood.

I get it rubbing people the wrong way. I just don't have an issue with it. He has (or by the end will have) only 16ish years to make the vast majority of the income he'll recieve for his entire life. I get players wanting every dime they can.

He probably should've phrased it better but don't think its a big deal

It's not just about these players wanting to get the most money for themselves. Top level players at their positions are pushed by the union and other players in the league to keep setting the market higher so that when say the next upper tier LT. CB, DT, WR, etc has their contract up, they can use the previous biggest contract at their position as a base line to top.

Also, Bakhtiari will inevitably go from a fan favorite to goat (not GOAT) if he has a bad game or two. That change won't impact him much I'd guess, but it will happen.

When he won't be working past the age of 36 and still has a chance to set up his kids and grandkids yes I hope he can make enough to do that if he's able

I understand all the reasons why he wanted to be the highest paid lineman ever and I agree with them. To be clear I have no problem with any of it. I am just in complete agreement with sdn40 that you don't go in your press conference and blatantly state that it was 100% about the money and that's all I cared about.
