Re: Jordan Love Thread - All Aboard the Love Train
FWIW, I DO think sitting a year and digesting NFL Defenses and your playbook is VERY beneficial to QB development. Often times I think a guy is thrown into a bad situation without having that developmental time, the pressure mounts, and then it becomes a mental thing which can spiral into a total confidence ruiner. Conversely, the coaching carousel comes into play, and they can't afford to NOT move on for the sake of their jobs, thus young guys are cast aside out of a lack of opportunistic patience. There are probably quite a few QBs who mostly lost out on sound careers as a result.

Probably a good argument for resetting your coach, GM and getting your QB of the future all at the same time. I think way too often those parties aren’t aligned and it is a major cluster **** because of it.

Someone needs to show me how to do a signature, cause there’s some quote worthy stuff here.
Love has been incredible considering what he’s working with. No one outside of Green Bay know who Doubs, Reed and Tae Wicks are.

And Christian Watson isn't a volume hog. We've all seen Love's inconsistency driving the ball down field right? We're going to rely on shallow crossing routes with Watson making plays all the time? I don't think he changes as much as some here think with him in the lineup. The guy is Jones.
Watson would bring another element of dynamism, but I'm not sure Love looks much different with him in the lineup. I've given Love credit where it's due, but I'm not going to turn a blind eye to the cringe moments either.
It's easy to look past the first three quarters because of the comeback, but they also happened.

Sure, but he was also missing three of his best offensive linemen and Aaron Jones, too. Most of the incompletions were passes on the money and were drops, or at least 50/50 balls that weren't brought in.
Nobody is calling him Mahomes but he's looked really good.

Yeah his mechanics get a bit wonky when he gets excited, like when he sees an opening for a big play. He's got a huge arm but even he needs to dig that back foot in the ground when he tries to toss it 60 yards.ReasonablySober wrote:skones wrote:stillgotgame wrote:

I think he's been terrific, but I wouldn't say "most" of the incompletions were on the money. There were way too many drops, but there were at least as many inaccurate throws - which is to be expected, since it's easier to catch a ball that hits your hands than it is to throw 30 balls and have nearly all of them hit your receivers in the hands. So there's no need to pretend he isn't having some accuracy issues when defending him, as he's been very good regardless of those errant throws.
Wut we've got here is... faaailure... to communakate.

From watching Kurt W and JT O'sull, it is almost always just sloppy footwork, so no doubt he has stuff to clean up but in terms of size, talent, arm, pocket presence, etc. he seems to have all the tools. Which is extremely encouraging.
Have to keep in mind that he has been sitting for 3 years, even an all pro like Watson looked rough after sitting two and a half years. I know there is a clunker coming but he has been pretty impressive overall IMO.

It's interesting - O'Sullivan seems to love Love, but he hates the shuffle he has at times (while acknowledging he has no idea if the coaching staff has instructed him to do it). I think most here know about it, but the QB School is fire. Really illuminates occasional accuracy issues going left with some hip stuff. Basically, I find it incredibly encouraging he has some very minor, simple things to improve upon.

I've noticed he seems to change his arm angle on throws quite a bit. Good to be able to do that when you need to but it seems like he goes with a 3/4 sidearm for no reason at times too.

I love watching the O'Sullivan stuff. It really gives you a perspective on what QB's are seeing and how they are reacting to it.

Re: Jordan Love Thread - All Aboard the Love Train
Ok, through 4 games, I feel like Love has been about 1/3rd good and 2/3rds bad. Something like that.
The bad hasn’t been *terrible* but at the same time, the good has been in large part MLFs playcalling (which is ok since QB play cannot be separated from the offense of which it’s a part).
Right now I feel like his ceiling—and he may not even get there—is something like Ryan Tannehill (in terms of quality, not play-style). I.e., a QB who *can* be very good at times, but is ultimately inconsistent, maybe with 1 really good full year. Sort of a C+/B- QB.
Obviously its too early to really judge him. And tbf, I have never followed a team that didn’t have an ATG QB, so maybe my perspective is skewed.
It would be instructive to hear the perspective of a fan whose team has had a lot of bad QBs—Chicago maybe.

I saw a comparison to Donovan McNabb and I thought that was pretty good. McNabb always had a low completion % but was able to make a high impact when he did complete passes and that's what Love seems like to me so far
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

I’d be pleased with McNabb-level. Idk.
Tannehill was just the 1st comp I thought of for a guy of that level—can be very good at times, mostly better than average but not by a lot, and ultimately is a very mixed bag. (I know Tannehill had 1-2 very good years, but he had more mediocre years).

Mid-Tier so, but if he somehow improves his Completion % to Top15/Top20, he will improve to Top10 in the other categories as a result.

I feel like the, "play to look exactly like Aaron Rodgers" stuff is good in some cases but potentially is very bad for accuracy on some throws.

He's basically been 2022 Rodgers so far IMO, which is kind of what I thought he'd be.
