Lots of mocks had Love there even at 30. None that I saw had Rodgers where we got em.

And, they said at the time Rodgers was the highest rated guy they assessed there. Fine. Gute said they were looking at somebody else and explored trading down when he wasnt there.

Huge differences.

I didn't see any mocks with him at #30, but I saw a lot in the top twenty.

I don't know if it's apropos of anything, but yesterday before the draft, one of my cousins and I were talking about Packer QB's in our lifetimes (We're both in our 60's) and in that of her kids. The only Packer QB's they have seen play are Favre and Rogers. My cousin and I have seen three Hall of Fame level talents in Starr, Favre, Rogers; along with a couple of pretty good QBs in Dickey, and Majkowski, and of course a lot of grade C (and lower) talent. As Packer fans, we've all been spoiled.

So many people are getting hung up on the trade up as if it's a bad thing. They clearly loved Love, and all it took to move up and get him was a late 4th. For the likely successor at the most important position in all of sports.

Love the pick, judging by what I saw last season Rodgers either needed a fire under his ass or he just isn't very good anymore, dude looked so dejected last season that it constantly irritated me. Now we get a first round talent developing behind the most talented QB of all time, good chance it works out in our favor.

Also think GB is extremely far from title contention when you consider our good fortunes last season + teams like the Chiefs existing who are so obviously much better than us. Gute realizes this and that's the type of foresight I like to see from my GM

So does anyone think that the short term game is the way of the NFL? There is so much turnover from year to year that a team can rebound pretty quick like the 49ers did last year. But they also drafted very well. We have so many holes to fill. Thats the only reason I do not like the pick.

There are, some with him in the second round, but in fairness a lot of the ESPN ones/others did have him top 20-25 with a handful in the top 10.

But you act like he for sure is going to be just as good as ARod.

If that's the worst part and he's a future franchise QB, I am a-okay with that. To me, all that matters is what is his upside and does he reach it?

liking this pick more and more..lights a fire under Rodgers..Love can learn for 2 to 3 years..and this draft is deep...look at all the guys on the big board...were gonna get a good one possibly 2 tonight at impact positions

what happens tonight could make this a great draft

That's good perspective. Imagine having Randy Wright/Rich Campbell and other similar guys as the QB for 40 of the 50 years instead of 5 of the 50 like GB has had. That's the experience of a good chunk of teams.

the 49ers were crap for awhile...what do you mean rebound quick...they got to use early picks on the d line for awhile

No one is sure of that. The point is the Packers think he could be and if they're right, "sacrificing" a 4th rd pick (and the opportunity cost of not taking someone else) is the most slam dunk no brainer ever.

Again, all that matters is - IS HE A FRANCHISE QB? If the answer is yes, it's incredibly silly to care at all about the 4th rd pick.

Question: would you be feeling better, or the same, about drafting Love if GB had drafted Dexter Lawrence or Christian Wilkins or Simmons last year at #12?

They were bad the year before and then they go to the SB. Thats pretty fast.

For me its not about a 4th round pick. Its about getting more help now. You cant tell me that Love is a better prospect than Queen. Most people had Queen above Love. And we have a huge hole there.

That would make me feel better about this pick. Any of those guys would have made a more significant contribution last year than Gary did.

Of course,..... If Gary makes a big stride forward (whenever the season runs), and if Love succeeds, then Gute is viewed as a certified genius. Gute apparently has the absolute support of Murphy, and Murphy probably doesn't leave till he choses, so....

What?

49ERS RECORD
2014: 8-8
2015: 5-11
2016: 2-14
2017: 6-10
2018: 4-12
2019: 13-3

You could at least google to avoid spouting nonsense. That's a rebuild, not a 1 season turnaround

Because pretty much everyone thought the Pats were going to take him.
