Re: Badgers Football - Transfer SZN
I have no idea what Outkick is (I can imagine - I just don't care enough to validate), but they have the most absolutely outrageous and inflammatory headlines possible. It's clickbait on steroids.
"Wisconsin Hit With More Serious Chaos As Program Faces Disaster"
Not worth linking and they don't deserve clicks. It's literally just a rehash of the Lucas drama, but without any of the rumors or developments from the past week-plus.

Re: Badgers Football - Transfer SZN
My guess is that **** Hookstead or whatever who works for Outkick is the one that wrote it? He's always doing **** like that and he sucks. Supposed Wisconsin/Madison guy but I still remember getting blocked by him when he guaranteed he was well-connected and Diamond Stone was going to go to Wisconsin, which was 100% fabricated.
There's plenty of good stuff at Barstool including our own Big Cat among others, some sophomoric stuff to sift through, which I've just never paid attention to. I think Outkick is entirely political/douchey.

I thought he looked like a potential riser. Interesting that they had a commitment in hand for 2026 and the new OC was just like, nah. I'm guessing it's because they're hunting for a bigger target in that class.

It's a good thing this involves Miami. If it involved literally any other school, no one would be on Wisconsin's side.

So apparently the Transfer Portal doesn't actually mean anything? The NCAA has zero control
This is why college sports sucks these days

I think skirting transfer rules and adding even more chaos to the the already riddled landscape of college sports will probably blow back pretty hard on Miami and Lucas. Wisconsin will probably be mostly forgotten in these conversations.

Re: Badgers Football - Transfer SZN
It's not zero I guess, but my concern that this ends up being "Wisconsin's fault" is really low tbh. As soon as the details about the NIL contract came out, I felt significantly better about it.
I also maintain that absolutely no one knows or cares about this except the perpetually online, some Miami, and fewer Wisconsin fans. That may change now given this development and the larger NCAA landscape, though.

Maybe these kids should start taking some sports business classes. I don’t feel bad for this kid at all.

Re: Badgers Football - Transfer SZN
If it's a case of him taking money and not returning it, I'm on Wisconsin's side.
If this is Lucas changing his mind after signing a deal and there was no money moved, eh, I would have hoped Wisconsin had just let him go. I get contracts and principles and the evolving world (especially when you're not a program that just gets elite talent every year) but this isn't going to go Wisconsin's way in the end. Should have just let him go quietly.

So if you can just unenroll, enroll somewhere else, and compete immediately….whats the point of the transfer portal?

That's the elephant in the room, and I suspect that the notion of a transfer portal is something the NCAA does not want to have to defend. I don't know if they'd win that fight legally. Lucas took a less litigious path than he could have by simply disenrolling and enrolling elsewhere.

I don't know if Wisconsin wants details about NIL contracts to come out. I could see them content to proclaim the situation is bad without divulging the proof detailing why it is so.

Re: Badgers Football - Transfer SZN
I could definitely see this as the impetus for the big schools to leave the NCAA and form their own league with player CBA. “Well, the NCAA has lost all control of the situation. To save college sports, we are banding together and negotiating rules on behalf of our member schools, our student participants, and as importantly of our fans.”
“Also, we find that Mr. Lucas, Mr. Heitner, and the University of Miami have been bad faith actors in this situation and will all be excluded from participating in any way for a period of at least 5 years.” (Dream scenario)
