Yes and no. If he comes out and tears his achilles there is a good chance he never earns above a minimum contract ever again. If he waits until June 15th to sign, he gets this year at 4M and there is at least a chance that he gets some kind of extension offer, a small chance, but a chance. Rodgers hyping him as the #1 guy was, um, very interesting.
He also does the heavy lifting "goon" work as a blocker downfield, which has become important. I think he's surpassed Lewis, who's starting to lose a step or two and who had been regarded as the top blocker of the recievers (both WR & TEs). In that regard, Lazard has a valuable skill to complement his so-so speed and adequate ability to get open
I have no flaming idea what he's worth for a contract, but I'd bet both sides have genuine interest in getting something done. I'd also bet given the WR contract climate and the thought that teams may start stepping back from such huge commitments long term, that this might be mostly about guaranteed money
