I prefer the boasting and trash talk from guys who are actually contributing to what has been happening on the field lately.

Yep. Soft to talk without backing it up.

Still the highest paid CB in the league too.

Our injury report is still looking pretty ridiculous. We really need to get healthy.

Sucks about Watson. More reps for Reed, Heath and Wicks though.

Excited to see what Wicks does with more snaps. Watson has been playing really well lately though so he will be missed for sure

Jaire just needs to get healthy and on the field contributing to winning football again and the surliness will be gone.

People want to trade or release him on twitter. Very predictable in their reasoning too. They want their Packers to act a certain way when they look a certain way. Ridiculous. Jaire is a personality and he needs to be allowed to be himself.

I’m not trading him for anything short of a 1st rounder +

I love the dude, I love the swagger and skill. I just don’t think he can stay healthy. So I want to cash out out if we can get a first.

Jaire's dead cap hit is over $27 million if he's traded, but that's only $3 million more than his cap hit so it's doable. I don't advocate for a trade though.

Bahk on the other hand has one year left. It's about $19 million dead cap if cut or traded but $40 million if he's kept. But you can't cut an injured player without an injury settlement and he doesn't have to agree to it. Best case is Rodgers convinces the Jets to trade for him.

Pete Dougherty's guesses on 2024 contract situations (It's behind a paywall)

https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/nfl/packers/dougherty/2023/12/08/predictions-on-green-bay-packers-2024-salary-cap-free-agent-decisions-pete-dougherty-column/71845383007/

Its a fairly lengthy article on his speculations for re-signing/cutting ties, but because access is via paid subscription, I'll condense it:

Expect to be Gone
: Bakhtiari (money and health), Savage, Campbell, Runyan, Njiman, Deguara

Definite maybes - either way
: Jones and Dillon (limited market for RBs), Owens

Probable re-signs
: P Smith, Nixon

Non-paywall.

The problem with Bahk is that unless he's fully healthy (doubtful) you can't just cut him. You'd either have to still pay his full salary or negotiate something. And he'd have no incentive to negotiate anything. Trying to prove or disprove his knee is good to go is tricky. I doubt any Dr. team or his own, would give him a clean bill of health.

There is a scenario where if he wants to play instead of going on the IR to free up a roster spot, he'd have to negotiate something. It could be pretty hard for him to make up the difference by signing with another team, but it could also be about trying to prove he's healthy enough to play in 2025 as well - something he can't do if he doesn't make it worthwhile for the Packers to leave him off the IR.

But that's a marginal difference at best, and it certainly doesn't look like there's any scenario where the Packers save anything close to the $20m people are talking about. I hope this playoff push doesn't tempt the Packers into kicking the can down the road even more. Clean up the cap as much as possible now so it's not an issue next time they're a leading contender again.

With how the Lions have been playing the division isn't even out of reach yet. Crazy.

I was thinking this as well.

9-4 Lions Remaining = vs. DEN, @ MIN, @ DAL, vs. Min
7-6 Vikings Remaining = @ CIN, vs. DET, vs. GB, @ DET
*7-6 Packers Remaining = vs. TB, @ CAR, @ MIN, vs. CHI
*Assuming we win tonight

Lions - Could see Denver coming in and winning, loss to DAL and split with Min for 1-3 over last 4.
Vikings - Split with Minnesota and lose to us and Cincinnati who is playing well w/o Joey B. 1-3
Packers - could certainly win the rest, not an easy task but doable. 4-0

Would leave us at 11-6, Det at 10-7, MIN at 8-9... would be really remarkable given how we started the year to not only sniff playoffs, but even have a punchers chance at a division title. Couldn't have told me this in October at all.

It would be nice to win the division, but getting the 6-seed is good enough for me because it all but ensures a match-up with a weak Central champion (probably Detroit, maybe Minnesota). Lambeau Advantage in the playoffs hasn't meant much since the peak Favre era. That said, winning the division could also result in a much more favorable round 2 match-up (read: avoid @SF).

Packers 10 in offensive DVOA and 28th in both D and Special Teams. I'm absolutely shocked there are 4 worse special teams units out there. It's embarrassing how little they have to show for the past decades investment on D.
