Not necessarily

Vegas places odds mainly based on trying to get a certain percentage of money on each team. The Packers are considered a national team by Vegas and odds setters. That meaning that the Packers have such a strong following nationwide that more money tends to get placed on Green Bay than your typical team.

On your average regular season game or even playoff games, the game spreads get influenced by this fact that more money typically gets bet on the Packers even if the initial set line shouldn't dictate so much money being bet on Green Bay. Take this weak vs Atlanta. The line probably should be Atlanta at least -3, but because the Packers have such a stronger following and thus more casual money will go on Green Bay, Vegas has to lower the spread by a half point to a point so as to get more money put on Atlanta. The Patriots are considered a national team also and this influences what the line is set at in their games.

The art of setting lines in sports and especially football isn't necessarily what the odds setters feel is what's mostly likely to happens in any given game, it's to get as much money as possible bet evenly on both teams, then Vegas can't be harmed by an outcome, they just win by collecting on the vig.

What are your guys' plans for the ballgame? My buddies are having a Packer party so we are going to stuff our bellies silly with all kinds of delicious snacks and then get totally hammered regardless of whether we win or lose. :)

Probably hittin' up North Ave/Brady Street in MKE if the Packers win.

Heard Santana Dotson on Homer on my way to the grocery store. He said he's talked to the "ghosts of Packer defensive lines past" (ie Gilbert Brown, Sean Jones) and they are all really impressed with BJ Raji.

He also sounded very confident about a Packers win this week.

I'm gonna watch alone in my room so that no one can bother me.

Oh and I know this is my first time posting here but I'm a big GB fan from Toronto and didn't know that this forum was so active.

Speaking of Homer, he had on a guy from Coldhardfootballfacts and he said in looking back through playoff history, the most predictive stat they've uncovered involves interception. The guy said that in playoff games where a QB didn't throw an INT, they won 80 percent of the time. Given how well Rodgers avoids interceptions, that bodes well for us, but Ryan doesn't throw many either.

Granted though, that stat isn't exactly a huge surprise since everyone already knows how much turnovers impacts who wins an NFL game.

I just finished listening to the Wilde podcast with Homer and he mentioned something i found interesting.

When it comes to defense if i'm reading football forums, nothing seems to bug the average fan more than the three man pass rush, particularly when the play results in a first down. I'll admit that it bothers me sometimes also, but i have noticed for awhile that the Packer defense this year has been fairly productive when the three man rush has been employed.

What surprised me a bit though is when Wilde asked Capers about the three man rush, Capers told Wilde that in how he grades out each individual play, the three man rush had graded out with a higher percent of what he labels a positive play than any other alignment used this year.

I think part of the rational though was that they primarily use that in third and long situations; so on a third and nine, giving up eight yards grades out well. It makes sense to use the three man rush in those situations but also that it would grade out well. But I think it would grade out worse if used on first or second downs.

I missed most of the first Falcons-Packers game, but I recall the Packers using a lot of no-huddle. Is my memory on that correct? I don't remember the Packers doing that any other time this season. Does anyone remember if it was effective and if it will be used again?

16,000 tickets remaining for this game. Amazing.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Nice fans. Hopefully there's a ton of green and gold in the stands.

Bigby would probably help, but I don't even want him to be active. I hope I never have to see him in a Packer uniform again after the crap he pulled during the offseason.

caplannfl

Nickel CB Brian Williams doubtful for the Falcons. That's a big loss. Good, physical CB. Chris Owens on the spot.

This dude had 7 tackles and 1 TFL last time we played them.
