I appears Littleton was always a pipe dream unless you want to rework contracts and affect the future cap.

Silverstein: Plenty of reasons why Packers' Brian Gutekunst didn't splurge in free agency
https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/nfl/packers/2020/03/18/green-bay-packers-why-gm-brian-gutekunst-didnt-splurge-free-agency/5064176002/
https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/nfl/packers/2020/03/18/green-bay-packers-why-gm-brian-gutekunst-didnt-splurge-free-agency/5064176002/
GREEN BAY – So far, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst hasn’t done anything dumb.
He hasn’t made Austin Hooper the highest-paid tight end in the NFL or given an inside linebacker more than $10 million per year or put himself in a position of having to fabricate salary-cap room because he overextended himself in free agency.
Undoubtedly, it was tempting for him to add a linebacker who could play the run and cover a tight end. Or a receiver who could smoke a cornerback at the line of scrimmage and catch a touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers. Or a tight end who could line up with his hand down and block as well as he runs routes and catches the football.
Though he investigated a lot of options during the “negotiating period” that precedes the start of unrestricted free agency Wednesday, he passed on all the high-priced talent that fell like dominoes Monday and Tuesday. He settled for two “street” free agents – players who reached the market because their teams released them, not because their contracts were about to expire.
There are those who would argue Gutekunst could cut guard Lane Taylor for another $4 million in room and guarantee money on existing contracts to create more cap space. But don’t forget club finance chief Russ Ball already did that with $14.25 million of a $19.5 million roster bonus quarterback Aaron Rodgers was due this week.
It’s a slippery slope when you start pushing salary-cap money into latter years.
Unlike last year when Gutekunst had more than $40 million of cap space and used $23.4 million of it on linebackers Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith, safety Adrian Amos and guard Billy Turner, he headed into free agency at the start of this week with around $25.7 million in cap room.
But that number did not include the increases in minimum salaries written into the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and the five exclusive rights free agents he wanted to keep at a cost of more than $3 million combined. That knocked the number down under $23 million and the deals for Kirksey and Wagner sliced it to where it stands now: $14.7 million.
It’s no wonder he passed on big-name free agents.
Given that he must get Clark and Bakhtiari done – he would be charged with dereliction of duty if he let either hit free agency – he must be judicious with his remaining cap money.

Dude, the legal tampering period for FA literally just started a few hours ago.
So who else are we signing?
Team is clearly not going to be better next year than last unless we come up with a dream draft.
Gutekunst got us to 13-3 last year. Looks like getting blown out in the nfc championship was good enough.

There’s going to be a huge cap increase next year (2021)with increased tv contracts. Why not push some more money forward? Are we going for it while Rodgers is around or not?

I'm ok with being a tad conservative this year. Making a bigger splash next year. Prepare for life without AROD.
After the same old pouty AROD came out during the 49ers game, I'm sort of done with him. He needs to be a leader not only with his play but intensity.....ala Tom Brady...

I know its early in FA just wish the packers were showing more of a sense of urgency.I feel they should be in a more win now modevwith rogers getting up there in age and have a more all in attitude. Not asking them to break the bank but at least show a pulse. Its like BG has morphed into TT in 1 off season.
They need a #2 receiver another DT another ILB i mean to hitch your car to just the draft to fill these needs is so TT like there are quality receivers and DT still out there

We don't know that he hasn't "kicked the tires" on WRs, do we? Regardless, this is probably the best WR class in a decade. I'd reserve judgment until post-draft.

So drafting rookie wrs is better than adding a samuels of anderson we know for the most part of how rogers feels about rookie wrs ....never throws to them would still be nice to bring that stud #2 in then draft yourself that slot guy like a mims

I have a sneaking suspicion Rodgers will have no problem throwing to talented rookie receivers over our current sh*it pile of veteran receivers. They don't have the cap room to be signing veteran free agents with holes everywhere and needing to extend Clark and Bahktiari.

Yep. We've been drafting WRs in 4th round and later, right? At some point we have to think about draft WRs higher.

Tom Brady won how many Super Bowls with afterthoughts + 1 stud WR and a good line/defense. Let's do that.
This might be the year to draft a few WR a bit higher to pair another playmaker with Adams but I'm still always in favor of beefing up other positions first.

Since 2012 we've drafted 4 WR/TEs in 2nd and 3rd round.
Jace Sternberger 3rd
Davonte Adam's 2nd
Ty Montgomery 3rd
Richard Roger's 3rd

I sort of agree. But WR and TE has been almost ignored since 2012. Our biggest signing at these positions has been....Jared Cook and Jimmy Graham.??? Anyone else...

But before that Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, James Jones and Jermichael Finley were all drafted in that range too. Jury is still out on Jace but besides Ty and Dick Rod, we’ve hit on just about everyone else. And Dick Rod still caught the Mo Town Miracle and was a dependable target. He was just slow, unathletic and should’ve gained more weight when he was younger and played OL. Despite missing on prospects the draft philosophy itself is something I still trust to fill holes where needed.
And we sure missed on the 3 WRs we drafted a few years ago. EQ got hurt, MVS stunk in year 2 and Moore isn’t even on the roster now. And Lazard the UDRFA no one knew about seems to be the best of the bunch now. I wouldn’t get to hung up on draft misses. It’s a crapshoot and happens to everyone, not everyone picks a winner every time. GBP has been successful as a whole especially pumping out pass catchers IMO.

We need to sign Clark, Bahkitiri and "probably" Lynsley next year and people are upset we havent spent more this year?
Raid the bargain bin and fill through the draft. Gute isnt a wizard that can just magically allow the Packers to have more cap space then other teams

He usually had about two prime receiving targets - a Welker/Gronk or a Edelman/Gronk combo - and a slew of running backs who were productive in the passing game as well. 49ers basically got by with Deebo/Kittle and a running game. Chiefs really had Hill/Kelce and a bunch of running backs.
We basically need one more high-value receiving target - either to come out of our current crop or through the draft. Perhaps it'll be Jace/Tonyan or one of the young WRs.

I agree with this. The Packers don't have much money to spend. Sign guys that other teams cut. Wait until free agency enters the phase where it doesn't change the comp picks.

5 time pro bowler jurrell Casey goes from tennessee to denver for only a 7th round draft pick wtf that has to be a typo a stud Dlineman for a 7th round pick
