Re: 2021 Packers Off Season - Rodgers Wants Gute Canned
OK, now that it is no longer May Day.
Here’s the solution:
1- Packers arrange a $50 million contract between Aaron Rodgers and Snickers. Tape him dressed up like high school Stage Crew at a horse race, complaining about not getting traded, his pony getting overtaken on the backstretch, and his girlfriend’s pantsuit or whatever, and then eating a Snickers bar and suddenly everything is better.
2- Rodgers agrees to a $10 million/year contract that allows the Packers to get 1 year of Richard Sherman, another solid D-lineman or ILB, and a better long snapper. (The packers really don’t have too many holes now, do they?)
3- Mark Murphy and the other powers that be in the Green Bay Packer community create two Aaron Rodgers seats on the Board of Directors, one for a recently-retired player chosen by peers and one a rotating 10-year spot for a representative of a charity of current players’ choosing.
4- Rodgers is guaranteed an advisory role on the Packers after his retirement that is paid variably to assure he gets a minimum of $5 million in income from all sources through 2041. So long as he uses GBP-approved mechanisms (decided before the contract is signed) to air his grievances.
OR-
He is traded June 1 to NYG or Oakland.

I have heard former NFL players saying he should have run.

Man, I think you are a more knowledgeable fan than to make that argument. I think you know it too.
As for control narrative, my sense if this isn't about Rodgers trying to control the QB position in GB for the next four years what is it all about? It isn't money, the team seems to want to work with him on a deal, but only if they remain in control of who/when the QB is in the future.
Unless you can present any other type of argument, what would it be about other than control?

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but I heard if he retires he loses like $26 million immediately.

Has to pay back, how much and when I think depends on when he would officially retire. Which I do not think he will.

He's been the QB of the Packers for 16 years. He bought in to this state. He wants to end his career with GB. I'm sure he believes that he should be the QB as long as he plays at a high level. Because he is a competitor. He said he'll beat out anyone they bring in. He wants to protect himself in case of injury. He wants to win a Super Bowl. All things any one of us would want if we were in his shoes. Do the Chiefs have control of who / when the QB of the future is ? Like it or not - Rodgers is the reigning MVP and playing at a very high level. He has every right to ask for an extension. The Packers have every right to say no. But there will be consequences. You want him to play for under market value and year to year and that's a pipe dream. Don't blame Rodgers, blame the NFL. The Packers want their cake and they want to eat it too. You want your cake and you want to eat it too. Rodgers isn't Keven King. Being awesome has it's privileges and he is going to push for them, just as any one of us would.

Not the best look for Gutey.

He's 1 year into his extension. Obviously math is hard for yousdn40 wrote:RRyder823 wrote:If Clark demands a new contract next season 1 year into the extension id take issue with that as wellsdn40 wrote:

The Packers went to Rodgers, not the other way around, so Rodgers should "take issue." Thanks
The contract was signed in 2018. I know - math is really really hard

Is Tom Brady gonna pout because Tampa took Kyle Trask in the 2nd round? Did he put the Patriots FO on blast when they drafted Jimmy G in the 2nd round way back in 2014? Or was/is the expectation simply that he'll be a professional about it?
If this is basically all about us drafting Jordan Love and not "informing" Aaron of it ahead of time, then this makes him look even more immature and selfish. As if we had told him about it ahead of time, he'd just be ok with it? GM's have an obligation to always do what's best for the team, in both the short and long term.

Can’t really compare drafting two QB’s at the end of the second round to trading up in the first for one.

Yes, it was really hard knowing someone on the internet could be so wrong! Off to take a nap now that the situation has been rectified. All in good fun.

A trade with the Raiders for Carr and picks might make the most sense. Carr's contract runs through 2022, perfect window until Love is ready. He also was Adams college QB so hopefully Adams would then remain engaged and help provide some sense of unity in the locker room.
I do not think there is anyway Rodgers is coming back.

Dealing with people who exhibit the "smartest person in the room" syndrome can be a challenge. One approach is to listen their opinion while also encouraging open-mindedness. It's important to create an environment where all voices are valued.

So it'd be fine if they traded up in the early-2nd round to pick Love? I don't understand why the hell the "1st round pick" designation matters to people so much.

If this is true what an idiot. And MLF & Murphy were certainly aware. Nobody had the balls to talk with Rodgers at the time? I'm not saying they had to call him and ask permission, or even justify their actions. A little "keep our HOF QB in the loop" was certainly appropriate though.
Murphy needs to go. He's been through this mess before and should know better.

But why not? You are either bringing in a back up or a successor every time you obtain a QB. What is the difference where they were drafted? It's all about the intent as far as I can see.

If it meant having a first round pick that most likely sees the field and can contribute right away, then yes, trade up in the second round for Love.

It matters because drafting the successor in the 2nd means you most likely got a more impactful pick in the first.
