I'm sure we're paying through the nose, given the price tags we're seeing around the league. Oh well. I like that they can truly go BPA at #12.

Frank Nova wrote:Is Smith strictly a pass rusher? Can he play in coverage and against the run at all? I know the Ravens D last year was top notch but ZDS wasnt a familiar name for me. I love that hes only 26 and had 8.5 sacks on a stacked D in his situational role. Can he be more than that tho or are we bringing him in to be what he already is?

On a side note; Kinda weird to me Baltimore is dismantling the way they are. That division is wide open now with the Bengals being a joke, Pittsburgh taking a step back and Cleveland still being a work in progress. Wonder why Baltimore didnt have the opposite approach and want to bring in more talent to be in better position to win the division. I suppose they can regardless but that D has taken a significant hit so far.

Smith is super talented, versatile, and was situational due to the Ravens’ insistence on milking every ounce of the Terrell Suggs legacy. This signing is really really good. He’a also a relatively fresh body due to limited PT. He will see a significant rise in snaps w Pettine and this contract.

Amos deal is supposedly 5yrs/20 mil with 5mil guaranteed. If that's legit, he is the steal of free agency so far.

Either will be cut June 2nd or restructure his contract at the least.

It's expensive, but they were going to have to choose whether they wanted to get involved in the market at this level or try and wait it out TT style. Looks like Gute made his choice.

Smith was the guy I really wanted. Love both of these signings. Now they can draft BPA.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

These pass rusher just get at least 1.5 mil a sack. Is what it is. That's why it's such a big deal to hit on these guys in the draft.

Perry has to be gone. This should give us the money to keep Matthews and Wilkerson hopefully

I'm fine with the price tag. We wanted to finally be involved and this is what it takes.

A safety who can tackle and doesn't **** up constantly.... I won't even know what I'm watching back there it's been so long since we've had one of those. :)

Smith is expensive but that's just the way it is with pass rushers. Like that they are getting his prime age range with the deal. Hope it works out.

These two signing make the draft more interesting because now damn near everything is on the table with those first couple of picks. Still need to add to the Edge group but now they don't need to do it right away if the right guy isn't there.

Edit: oh now they are signing Preston Smith too. They aren't messing around on the Edge in FA.

pack had about 35 mil in space - 16 for smith, 5 for Amos (if reports are 4 yrs 20 mil), how much for preston? If P. Smith is around 5 or so, and they cut perry they still have some space to go after another player!
