Looking like the Packers should have try harder to sign Jenkins and let Jones go. I am not sure how you get Cobb on the field a lot without ticking off the top four wrs.

I don't know I'd go that far. Nelson and Finley are FA and DD is nearing the end. You can never have enough good WR in today's NFL. Obviously, I expect Finley back, but still.

I was just meaning for this year. How will the other wrs take it if Cobb is getting a decent amount of playing time over them. Cobb looks like he could have a bigger impact on offense than any of the wrs other than Jennings if he has the playbook down. Cobb does need to improve his technique to gain separation more quickly of the line of scrimmage.

I don't think it is in the personality of those guys to be that way. Yeah they wall want to get their touches but for the most part they are all also happy with winning and for the success of the group as a whole.

I think these are prideful guys. Driver has stated he wants to remain the starter. Jones wants to start. Nelson is playing for a contract. How would they feel if a rookie with just a training camp under his belt came in and took their playing time. I expect them to say the right things to the media.

All of that said I am all for Cobb getting more playing time. He looks like more of a play maker than those three guys.

I agree. He's been very impressive. OTOH, the worst packer to make the team.... Pat Lee.

Looks like Lee has surpassed Bush on the garbage truck. IF he doesn't pick it up Look for Gordy or even Ross take his spot.

West looked ok in the game, Gurley impressed me a bit until he dropped what looked like a routine sideline catch. To me Borel stood out the most with his YAC after Cobb of course.

Borel has been very good at times but to me West is consistently doing it. But obviously I don't see but a fraction of either of their work.

Exactly, way too soon to see what they will be but West to me just looks like he is where he should be for a guy thats been on the practice squad for a year. The real difference could be his special teams play, but Borel looks like he could be a natural punt returner.

Yep that 5th CB spot is available. Bush is horrible on the field when not on STs, and pat lee looked like garbage. Behind house, there is a spot for someone unknown to step up and take it

This Oline thing is driving me a little nuts. Of course I don’t have access to info or know squat but I will venture this. Give the rookies the best chance to excel by keeping them - primarily - at the position they played in college for their rookie camp. If they’re backups – then maybe during the season gradually diversify their position. Then in camp of year 2 when they’re not overwhelmed, move them around.

It’s not like coaches never err. I think it was two years ago coaches insisted on using the bum brothers - Barbre and that other stiff – Giacomini – at RT all preseason even tho they both sucked. I and many others felt that rookie Lang was clearly the best option. When Tauscher went down and those 2 POS failed – who ended up at RT? Yes Lang. Sometimes coaches just get it wrong.

This year?
1. Put Lang at LG and unless he clearly sucks early (and you can tell early) –let him settle in, gets the starter reps and master the position and form chemistry w/ other starters.
2. Let Sherrod play at his natural LT. It’s not like Clifton is going to be around forever.
3. Let Schlauderaff play at the position he played all college – LG – even if he’s 3rd string.
4. At least they got it right using Newhouse at both T spots and stopped using him at G where he never seemed comfortable.
5. If needed in season injury emergencies Lang, Newhouse, McDonald & Bulaga can move around.

LT- Clifton / Sherrod / Newhouse
LG- Lang / McDonald / Schlauderaff
C- Wells / McDonald
RG- Sitton / McDonald
RT- Bulaga / Newhouse

When Clifton gets hurt or retires we’re set at all spots (except for drafting a C b/c so far McDonald is way better at G than C).

I know its early but we were right 2 yrs ago!

edit - PS - If anyone competes w/ Lang it should be McDonald. Hell he was impressive at G last year. At C see if EDS can really play C or trade a 5th or 6th pick for one. McDonald is 3rd string C. Have Schlauderaff on PS.

Maybin was a popular name on here wasn't he? I wonder what his deal is.

Just got back. Some observations.

-Did a lot of screen pass work with Finley and Grant
-Cobb = stud
-Split Taylor and Finley out wide often; Finley ran a go route, which was overthrown
-Gurley, Taylor and West made some nice grabs
-For about 30 mins, all the QBs were working on pass patterns exclusively with Finley, away from the rest of the team.
-Finley catches everything within a 10 mile radius of his hands. They are like magnets
-I shook hands with Edgar Bennett. He seemed kinda surprised a fan would come up to him, I was pumped.
-Starks, Green, Quarless and Crabtree weren't in pads
-Lots of the vets were joking around having fun in today's practice
-Elmore is invisible
-Walden is a good, strong player
-Grant looks a bigger (in a good way), maybe its just me

I can't help but think major red flag if a guy taken in the first round a few years ago was cut from a team so desperate for talent.

Jordy caught a million passes from Freeman in college. I wonder if the Bucs have asked about him.

I don't think it'd be the worst idea to trade Jordy before the year if we could get a decent pick back for him... though I do think it would hurt us a little once DD is eventually done.

With Jennings, Finley, Cobb, Jones and some of our other passing catching TEs, we seem pretty set going into the future in terms of guys who can catch the ball.

I seem to remember the scouting knock on Maybin was "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane." Anecdotally, I feel like those guys typically don't figure out how to be tough, and if the scouts were wrong, it would have shown up by now.

I really wouldn't mind trading Jordy for a pick and going with West or Gurley as the 5th, maybe even Shakey if he proves to be a legit returner. Hell maybe even go with 4 WR and use Finley standing up a lot. I'd only worry about it for depth this year. Next year we can draft another one in the 2nd/3rd rds to be Drivers replacement and avoid paying Jordy.

Elmore sounds like a lot of hot garbage. That's disappointing because I thought that was a good value pick from where we took him.

Yah, I thought that as well.
