I think the program is a bit too stable for that to happen, but you never know.
Look at what happened fairly recently to these socalled stable to major programs after winning coaches left and a bad hire was made
Tennessee
Alabama pre-Saban
Michigan
Kansas State after Snyder left and now back up after he returned
Florida after Spurrier left and before Meyer took over
Notre Dame for nearly two decades
Miami
Washington used to be good
UCLA went into the dumpster for quite awhile
That's just off the top of my head and many of those schools have a better tradition of success.
Obviously Alvarez could end up making a good hire to replace Bielema, but every AD of the schools i listed i'm sure thought they made a good hire when picking a new coach/coaches that ended up dragging the program down instead.
