I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Agreed, don't see the point of playing one series then shutting them down for the rest of the preseason. At least give them a full quarter between Games 2 & 3.

I would think getting drilled by the saints last year would be reason enough to want some game time before it matters.
only a fan, only an opinion

I don't know, I think them getting the 1 seed and winning 13 games ultimately made that a non-issue. If anything, guys remembering that beat down goes a longer way.

I would guess they see how the oline looks this first game then decide from there. I can't see them playing Rodgers if they are still figuring things out up front. I'll take a little rust over an injury.

I am more concerned about keeping our QB upright. Jenkins and bahk are out. Figure out the o line for game 1 before putting Rodgers back there.

Some noise from Packers beat guys that Watkins might not be a lock at this point

Maybe if his name was Denise instead of Dennis.

Called this months ago and I still don't see why people ever saw him as a lock for the 53-man. Watson being out has helped his chances, but it wouldn't surprise me if all of Lazard, Doubs, Cobb, and Winfree have already leap-frogged him on the depth chart. If you've watched Sammy the last couple seasons, I think it's clear as day that the separation speed isn't there anymore.

Also pretty ominous how quiet Rogers has been. Not a lot of positivity coming out of camp from him. I know as a recent 3rd-rounder he's unlikely to get cut, but Winfree seems to be a better option at this point. Interested in seeing both in the preseason.

The opposite side of that coin is that they already know what they have in him, and as a vet, are being cautious. I can't imagine them going into the season with Lazard and Cobb (slot only) as the only guys who have caught more than 10 passes. Rookies are unpredictable and tend to hit a wall at some point. Just sayin

Lazard, Watson, Doubs, and Cobb are locks at this point. Winfree and Toure and probables (IMO). Taylor, and other camp guys are on the bubble. I don't know where Watkins fits on that continuum

Yeah, I see the same 4 guys as locks. Then Watkins, Rodgers, Winfree, and Toure as the main guys bidding for 2 spots. Rodgers has the 3rd-round status going for him, but if he can't be a solid returner, I don't know if he has that much value. He's the backup slot guy behind Cobb, but it seems like our offense loves big guys in the slot position, so it's not like there's tons of snaps for his body type. Winfree was talked up by #12, but he doesn't return kicks and not sure if he's a top ST guy. Toure can play ST, it seems, but all those 7th round guys are on the bubble. Watkins is a vet, you kinda know what you're getting, but releasing him also saves you the most money, plus he may not be the most reliable guy, with the dehydration thing and the injury history.
I guess they could keep 7 if they all are balling out, esp on ST, but they'd have to beat out an 8th or 9th OL, a 6th or 7th DL, a 7th edge, a 5th or 6th safety...

If Watson isn't ready to go in the next week or so I could see them shelving him on the PUP to start the season. That would help Watkins chances. But if someone like Winfree passes him up on the depth chart theres really no reason to keep him around.

Hope Watson comes back soon and impresses. Was firmly on the Pickens train during the draft and seeing him ball out with the Steelers hurts a little, even with Romeo showing out.
Still super early though.
