Much much rather have Franklin personally, Diaco has been passed over by second tier programs, not interested at all. I am probably wrong, but I just have a feeling Barry has a verbal from someone and needs to wait until sometime later next week to announce. I would love that guy to be Chris Petersen, but have a feeling it is Tucker.

I'm good with Tucker, would prefer him over Diaco, but Diaco wouldn't be a bad hire. I've seen nothing exceptional out of Vandy's program that would make me want to hire Franklin. Besides, has Franklin even been rumored as a candidate?

I just realized that Riley is 60. I'd rather bring in someone younger who can build a longterm legacy. I mean, Barry retired at 58.

Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez was asked this week whether Bret Bielema decided to leave the UW program for Arkansas, in part, to escape the considerable shadow of his boss.

"I have been told that," Alvarez said Thursday on the Tim Brando Show. "I really don't think about it. Bret and I had a great relationship.

"He and I, we talked every day. He'd bounce things off of me. We had a tremendous relationship.

"Yet I think there was some of that. My wife reminds me of that. I can't speak for Bret, but that's not the first time I have heard of that."

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Mike Riley says he "has not interviewed, isn't scheduled to interview and has no interest in Wisconsin."

Prepare for the crickets when this actually gets announced.

Love King Barry, but so far the grumblings from this search have left me grossly uninspired.

Scott Van Pelt had Andy Staples on from SI.com, he has no idea about who UW will hire, absolutely raved about Madison, but said they will have issues bringing in a top college coach because they refuse to pay the assistants anything.

Isn't that exactly the theory I brought up that you rebuffed a week ago in all of this, saying those guys left because they didn't like Bret?

they are not mutually exclusive, BB was not popular with many of his past assistants, they have ALWAYS been underpaid, this is not something new...they left with Chryst, some were for promotions some weren't.

And now a lot of current ones are going to leave for higher pay from BB's former staff...some of them following BB.

Also, Chryst wanted a head coaching gig. We couldn't just have fired BB, as desirable as you thought that was.

I still believe it was a combination of our middle-of-the-pack assistant coach salary pool and the fact that Bielema was not very well liked among the assistants. The former is the bigger reason, but the latter made it that much easier for the coaches to bolt.

If Beilema was telling the truth, assistants who left for Pitt not only got promotions in some cases, their pay went from about 250K to 400K. That's a big raise if true and i just don't get why a school like Pitt can afford to pay so much more for assistants than Wisconsin can?

Some of them just followed him to Arkansas and got a huge pay raise.

He said others approached him just before he left for Arkansas saying they had higher-paying offers. He was fearing his staff of assistants was about to crumble again before he left for Arkansas.

I haven't studied the actual cases too closely but I think the total of guys that left because they didn't like Bielema is probably close to like 1 if any.

I'm only saying that I think a small portion of the decision making process, on a coach to coach basis, was a general dislike towards Bret. I am fully aware and fully agree that $$$ is the much bigger reason we keep losing assistants. I'm probably a touch biased in that area due to my disliking Bielema. :)

Why is it so hard for you to believe that a number of assistants didn't like Bielema? Bielmela's personality is very stand offish, yet your undying love and worship for the guy is cute but unfounded.

They were extremely successful last year. I thought as soon as Doeren went to NC State that he would take Canada with him.

I'm starting to resign myself that I'm not going to like whoever we hire.

Mike Riley would be a god send at this point.
