Maybe Hendrickson just becomes outright available and we’re ready to make the move for him. 2 things I actually trust is Gutenkist going after a free agent and Russ Ball winning a gold medal at cap gymnastics.

Was thinking about that but have a feeling that one of the reasons they released Germaine Pratt this morning was to maneuver some additional cap room for Hendrickson. Hope I'm wrong lol.

He had a cap hit of $8.1 million and a dead cap of $2.3 million so they save $5.8 million this year. Could be used for Hendrickson.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Packers couldn’t have handled the Jaire situation any worse. That’s why it’s smart to trade players before their 1st big contracts. Would have received a 1st and 3rd rounder most likely.

I don't think resigning Jaire was a mistake. You should absolutely resign good players at key positions. It ultimately didn't work out because of injuries but I don't think the process was bad.

Not every move is about maximizing assets.

So is your theory that teams should never extend players after their rookie deal?

Not all, but definitely for players of Jaire’s caliber. He was nowhere ever worth being paid as the top CB in the NFL during a time CB’s were being paid a premium. I was opening against resigning Bahk and Jaire, and received a lot of flak for it on here. If a non-QB isn’t a top 3 at his position, trade him, don’t pay him like a top 1 at his position. The draft picks and cap space for free agency is way more valuable.

Bahk's 2nd or 3rd contract? Because I think there's a difference there. I'm pretty against 3rd contracts for any non QB. But Jaire was an All Pro CB when he re-signed and wasn't particularly old.

He was the highest graded CB in the league the season before he signed his extension. He was literally the best in the league.

Bakh was arguably the best as well. The Packers have had a remarkable number of "best in the NFL" candidates in the last ~6 years. Bakh, Jaire, Rodgers, Adams, and Jenkins. And all but Jenkins played super-premium positions.

But there were some warning signs with Jaire relatively early on, though I can't fully blame the Packers for hoping it would work itself out.

WTH are you talking about? Jaire absolutely was in that group when he got extended.

It's kind of amazing your doubling down on the idea that a young All Pro CB isn't worth a 2nd contract and part of the reason why is...... (checks the end of your post)..... so they can have more cap room to spend in free agency. Ya know the place where simply good players get overpaid when they hit it

I think its more of bad luck that Jaire missed about half the games and Bakh missed about 75% after their extensions.

Linemen on both sides of the ball suffer both from catastrophic fluke injuries and an endless accumulation of repeated stress injuries. RBs probably even more so. Some guys weather it better than others.

Yeah the Bak deal obviously didn't work out but I would absolutely do it again in the same circumstance.

Regardless of how much or little faith they had in Jaire's durability, fair to question why they then chose to not really address arguably their two biggest weaknesses on the defense this offseason (edge rusher and corner). Hobbs might be a solid starter or depth signing, but seems like they're banking an awful lot on internal improvement from guys who haven't really shown a whole lot (LVN, Cox, Mosby, Vallentine, King). That or they have a lot of confidence in Hafley making this unit a sum greater than the individual parts.
