Are you keeping 7 wrs? Sounds like Rodgers had a hand in signing Watkins. I can't see them cutting him unless he bombs in preseason. So they are likely keeping Lazard, Cobb, Rodgers and Watkins.

Lazard, Cobb, Rodgers, Watkins, and the 3 rookies. Yeah, seems good, though I'm beginning to think that Rodgers was a mistake.

last year the pack had 8 WR who had 160 or more snaps (offense and ST). Three of those are gone, and Watkins was added. I think the 3rd WR they draft can beat out Winfrey or Taylor.

Cobb and Watkins probably don't make it thru the season without spending some time on IR. Rodgers will be lucky to be a poor mans gadget guy. Tonyan will start the season on the PUP and Deguara is a glorified FB. Need one more just in case veteran IMO

I keep reading articles about the players in this draft where the writers note considerable skills, but always offset by notable defects at most of the round 1 level. There's not even a clear cut consensus 1-2-3. It makes me feel that much of the first round is a collection of good value depth, but with no homerun candidates. That seems to be especially true of the top WR's and DL's (which the Pack needs of course)

How true is that, versus nit-picking by the scribes?

Also, I've seen several mocks done by different outlets, where if the Pack stands pat @ #21 Jahan Dotson is the guy. As I've noted elsewhere, I don't have any serious knowledge of the real potential of these guys, but if all the perceived top-flight guys are already picked, Dotson kind of seems like the proverbial "lovely parting door prize". A participation trophy, if you will. How right/wrong is that notion?

I'm okay with some older guys in the later rounds. He's likely a 4th-5th rounder that can return kicks for us at the very least. It stinks some of these players got shafted by some covid seasons.

Yeah, I suppose you're open to a smaller return on investment in the later rounds. Probably a good area to get a returner even if that's all they do

^^^ With Rogers only around another year or two, probably more focus on guys who are seen to be more ready for the NFL, rather than developmental guys. Age may be secondary to ability and perceived coachability. i.e. can you play a useful number of snaps starting in September 2022?

I mentioned that a while back when talking about the numerous warts on this supposed loaded draft class. Also, rumor has it Burks isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. To the point where he didn't know much of the playbook.

Came down to Burks & Pickens at 28. Just can’t shake the feeling that Pickens becomes a beast, despite the red flags. Got some HWS prospects & a developmental QB as well. Had to take the weapon in the 7th despite signing McDonnell. : )

Been looking back at various historical 1st rd picks (via the Athletic) and Pickens gives me some Randy Moss vibes, perhaps not quite the talent Moss was, but just the character challenges. It really is interesting to see what scouts / consensus was saying about players that either went on to have success or failed miserably. It really is showing how much of a crap shoot the draft really is. If all things are equal, I'm betting on athletic traits and hoping the kid matures. A lot to like about Pickens athletic profile.
