I am not sure I’m down on TVD after that one as some. I don’t think they gave him many opportunities to let it rip with the gameplan…that was fine tonight I guess.
Pauling is a good player. Guys like Bryson Green, CJ Williams, etc have the agility of a semi truck. There are almost no explosive players…therefore, I dunno what a QB can do.

Yea, those guys are definitely no Nick Toon, Jared Abbrederis, and Jacob Pedersen.
TVD sucks. He got benched on an average ACC team.
I like Fickell and Longo but going with VD was them holding up a white flag this season.

Hopefully, they iron out the back line. The OHs had a bad night, but Charlie is for real. Not going too over react.

He reminds me of a college Favre. He is going to give his wrs a chance to make a play on the ball. Sometimes it will lead to turnovers while other times it will lead to success.
I see a lot of potential, hopefully the oline holds up and he learns from his mistakes.

He might be as good as the QBs we had back then when we pummeled underdeveloped/under-recruited/young teams by running the ball 100 times behind a top O-Line.
I don’t think he’s great, but once again - he’s the best we can get, because I’m an idiot for actually cheering for a team that has no shot and it gets increasingly worse as the years ago by.
We run a spread offense and have no playmakers. A little different than pounding the ball out of the I-formation.

I think this is right.
Super tight windows all night, but the throws were accurate. Just nowhere to go with it. Like that last tip right before the muffed punt. It hit Pauling right in the hands as TVD was running from pressure. I thought it was actually an amazing throw, but a questionable decision. Sure the defender was right there and made a nice play, but Pauling could’ve/should’ve made a better play. Then the ball goes up and I think Williams(?) has an easy tip to catch and he boots it too.
There were at least a half dozen drops and a few more 50/5 balls that we just didn’t come down with. For as “deep” as our WR group is, it lack anyone with any burst. Also, The swing pass **** has to stop. It sucks. It’s never worked. It’s never going to work. Stop it.
Please reconsider your animal consumption.

Almost felt like a preseason game. We’ve seen the offense look explosive in the bowl game and I was hoping that would finally be a take off point for the offense but today was vanilla as hell until the end.
The oline hasnt been great for awhile and it looks to be bad again. Defense looks solid in the back 7, but the d line is going to be a problem.

And right before the end of the first half he made a perfect deep ball throw to the right sideline that probably ends up being a TD if not for the defender getting away with pass interference.

Meh. Not a great game. I think preparation for non marquee games continues to be a problem for this coaching staff. I don't know if it's a little arrogance or what but it's annoying. Hopefully the Oline comes together with more snaps and the defense can find a big body with a pulse.
only a fan, only an opinion

He kind of says the quiet part out loud here alluding to talent to throw it deep.
We have never and probably will never have such talent to run this system. But we kinda have to try a system like this in the modern era. TVD is probably fine, nothing special…but we are probably boned in this era.

I saw nothing that made me believe this team is any better than last season. O-line cannot pass protect and D-line has no penetration, and those two things will continue to be the achilles heel.

TVD wasn't good but i don't think he's the main culprit of last nights performance. We have a strong arm QB and Longo called soooo many checkdowns. The lines were disasters and this team isn't going anywhere if they continue to be that bad. The WRs also seemed to create very little separation and had several drops. Overall a very discouraging performance
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Longo’s offenses were explosive with DK Metcalf/AJ Brown/Dawson Knox/Van Jefferson or Drake Maye.
You can use that as an indictment on him that he needs first round talent to be good, or you can look at all of the other programs not blessed with elite talent and notice that their offenses also suck even with cycling through 8 different OCs.
We’re boned on talent.

Struggling against a mid-major opponent that won 4 games last season is about exactly what I expected from this program.

I long for the good old days of top notch offensive linemen.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Barry and I approve of this post.
It all comes back to where you want the program to be. If you want to try and contend for a national title, you emphasize a modern offense. See where it ends up. Might not work. And if you want a 9-3 team that blows out crap programs but will only be ranked between #10-20 you go back to Barry’s world.

I think part of the issue is teams will pay top notch linemen and take them away from us.
Then on the other side, our top notch line + modest skill position players can’t beat the **** out of Purdue’s unpolished sophomore lineman anymore, because Purdue has an All-Mountain West senior transfer in his place nowadays.
We also play a way tougher schedule now.
I think the 9-3 path is dead. I was the 9-3 team appreciator for decades. Can’t do it anymore, at least not consistently.
Like I said earlier - I don’t think I’m going to see many more highly competitive Badger teams in my lifetime…no matter which route they try.

I think you mean this ironically, right? And I just wanted to call it out because, though I get your point and you're in the right on TVD so far, I think this is actually unironically true. Those guys, especially Jared, would be godsends on this team. There's always some chicken/egg when it comes to the WR/QB relationship and their stats, of course, but my eyes say that all of those guys are substantially better than what we currently have to throw to.

Then CFB will just die. If consistently good teams like Wisconsin have no chance than who really does besides the 8-10 teams that spend millions a year.
