Good article. Basically after this season Rodgers time in GB is year to year with many factors involved.

My personal guess is it will be two years. Cap hit is a little less and this year could be very limited with practice time so might be hard to gauge how ready Love will be.

Hard to see anything longer than 2 years. Like the article mentions if he has a good year and they have some level of confidence in Love, would be great to cash in on a big trade.

Yeah anything longer than 2 years would require either Rodgers being so good you can't move on or love looking like **** and they realize he's not the guy.

Keep hearing that Taylor Gabriel and Snacks Harrison would be good fits and I agree, but do we have any cap space for that?

I think the pack only have a few million left after signing the rookie class but there are some ways like cutting Taylor that can give them a little more room.

Damon Harrison would be great. Ironically his wikipedia page states:

Damon Paul Harrison (born November 29, 1988) is an American football nose tackle who currently plays for the Green Bay Packers.

I think if we can make another signing this year that’s not someone like Warford, I hope it’s another vet corner. King’s up and down, health not withstanding. Another big guy to play the perimeter would be nice. Heard they may use Savage a lot in slot.

Are there any vet DBs out there that can help at this point that would be cheap? Sullivan was solid last year.

I like the thought of both Gabriel and Harrison. Gabriel played in a similar offense in Atlanta a few years ago.

I’d maybe kick the tires on Dre Kirkpatrick who has battled some injuries the last couple of years. Still just 30.

I know a lot of fans were really frustrated with Ted over the years not pursuing big ticket free agents over the years, but I believe one thing that gets glossed over is the lack of bringing in cheap vets in free agency whose physical primes are probably behind them but are still solid and can step in and not get burned. They historically relied way too much on late round/UDFA young players to contribute.

Rumors making the rounds that Rodgers is announcing retirement tomorrow. 2020 needs to be burned with fire.

I'm sure everyone will have a very rational reaction to whatever Rodgers says and not totally over analyize every comment :)

I look forward to the subtle jabs at the media and “experts”.

Pretty amazing to me the amount of controversy the NFL media always tries to drum up around Rodgers considering how little his actions over the course of his career, both on the field and off, have invited it. Brett invited it on himself, Brady gets a pass because he wins all the time, and Peyton was always such an obnoxious suck up so it kinda shielded him from most criticism. With Aaron, it almost seems entirely a vindictive product of his indifference towards reporters and media personalities in general.

I'm really looking forward to Greg Jennings getting to make his rounds to talk **** for the 100th time and half the media acting like it's some new story.

Rodgers doesn't sound like he is retiring right now. Someone read/heard some bad rumors.

He said goal is to play into his 40's

Yep, that sounds like about as far off the mark as you could be given what he said. Clickbait.

Some reporter(s) is hoping for a replay of Favre's retiring/not retiring saga. That was the golden ticket for some of those guys to be milked for as long as possible. Right now, with so very little of substance to report, any sniff of a story is going to get played up.

Re: Packers 2020 Offseason Thread - Rodgers Comments on Love Selection

Post#880 » by humanrefutation » Fri May 15, 2020 9:19 pm

Rodgers offered comments on the Love pick:

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/aaron-rodgers-says-hes-excited-to-work-with-jordan-love-doesnt-rule-out-ending-his-career-with-a-new-team/

Rodgers, speaking to the media Friday afternoon, said that he is looking forward to working with Love, who the Packers traded up to select with the 26th overall pick.

"I think the initial reaction [to the Packers selecting Love] was surprise," Rodgers said, via the team's official website. "Not gonna say that I was thrilled by the pick, but I understand. The organization is not only thinking about the present but the future, and I respect that. I understand their focus and their mindset."

Rodgers, who is entering his 16th season with the Packers and his 13th season as the team's starting quarterback, said that had a "great conversation" with Love the day after he was drafted. Rodgers said that he hopes to develop a strong rapport for Love while citing previous working relationships with former Packers backup quarterbacks Matt Flynn and Brett Hundley, among others.

"I'm excited to work with him," Rodgers said of Love, the fourth quarterback taken in the draft behind Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert. "He seems like a really good kid with a really good head on his shoulders."

While he said that he would like to finish his career with the Packers, Rodgers said that that may be out of his control if he decides to play beyond his current contract, which is set to expire after the 2023 season.

"[The selection of Love] reinforces the adage that you can only control what you can control," Rodgers said. "Any great athlete, there's things that are out of my control. That's very important to me, but that's truly out of my control. What I can control is my play and make that decision, at any point, a hard one ... If there feels like a time where I feel like I can play at a high level, and my body feels great, there's been other great players that have gone onto play elsewhere."

One of those players was Favre, who finished his career with the Vikings after Rodgers replaced him as Green Bay's starter. Rodgers, however, isn't entirely worried about the end of his career. Instead, he is focused on what the Packers can do with their opportunity in 2020.

"I like where we're at," Rodgers said of the Packers' current roster. "What we accomplished last year was pretty amazing. I like where we're at. As always, we're expecting those young guys, those rookies, to make that big jump and play some big roles for us."
