It sounded like they held the presser today in an empty airport hanger, just had to get that out of the way first.

I like the Anderson hire better than I had initially thought. He appears sharp and well organized, simple points I know, but you have to be well put together if you are going to butt heads against Urb.

Gary and Barry (that is going to get old) seem like kindred spirits, I never really got that feeling with Bret. Clearly this is a hire which will bring key alumni back, who were hesitant to keep supporting the program in a strong fashion.

Let's see where it goes.

Agreed, Anderson will be the primary strategist on D, and Kauhahahaha will coach DL's (which Partridge didn't seem to do well anyway). I don't know if there's much of a role for him anymore. I think Anderson should just try to talk some sense into James and co. to get them to stay. His defensive philosophies sound very intriguing and favorable to playmakers.

The most important assistant hire at this point will be OC. I'd like to see them lure Rudolph back over for his tutelage under Chryst and midwest recruiting ties. BA and GA talked about getting a couple assistants who recruit the midwest into the fold. So far I think only Strickland is on board

I am hoping James and everyone else allows Andersen into their homes, he seems to have the ability to win over most, although we all know probably not everyone. Andersen basically said he will play either 4-3 or 3-4 based on who his best players are, I love that to be honest with you. He believes in putting his best athletes on the field, I felt all season lone Melvin Gordon was extremely under used, doubt this happens with this coach.

I like Joe Rudolph, but do not think he is ready to run the type of offense Andersen wants to run. Andersen didn't mention the passing game during his presser today, but he was on the Van Pelt show and said they want to keep UW's power run game as the core, run a little option if possible, and wants to be effective throwing in all 3 zones (short, medium, deep). My guess is his O-Coordinator will be a developer of QB's like Chryst and his previous O-Coordinator, sounds like the QB position will finally be put at a premium.

You were close, it was held at the Kohl Center.

I'd like to see him retain Bart Miller as the OL coach. We all saw the disaster our line becomes when their not being coached correctly.

Well, Barry only interviewed Tucker, Clawson, and Andersen? That's a pretty soft list. He must've been turned down by a lot of folks.

I don't mean that to criticize Andersen - he's said all the rights things so far and I like his track record.

Absolutely. Miller was a Godsend and the biggest reason for UW's improvement and success this season. He really got that OL playing well after looking sickly early on in the year.

I don't know Miller's story that well - wasn't he just a grad assistant with no coaching experience who stepped in after they fired Markuson? I'm wondering if the O-Line's improvement was simply due to dropping Markuson's new scheme and reverting to the old scheme, rather than Miller being a great coach or anything.

You're right about him just being a grad assistant, technically was the "offensive quality control coordinator". Markuson's style was definitely a bad fit, and you could be right that all it took was dropping it to find success, but I find it hard to believe that Miller didn't have anything to do with it. All I know is when he stepped in as interim O-Line coach, that group got exponentially better week by week.

None that I have seen or heard of. He is obviously having a helluva first impression with a lot of these kids. I just really think Coach A is going to be a slayer on the recruiting trail.

The first day Gary Andersen was cleared to call recruits as Wisconsin's head football coach was Sunday.

The feedback from recruits, based on euphoric comments on Twitter, was that Andersen was on his way to holding together a strong 2013 freshman class.

Former UW coach Bret Bielema thought the class would be his best overall as UW's head coach.

"First of all, for the most part I thought they were very solid commitments," UW coach/athletic director Barry Alvarez said Tuesday night after UW arrived at The Plaza in Century City to continue preparation for the Rose Bowl.

Alvarez, who took over the team two days after Bielema revealed he was leaving to coach Arkansas, hosted more than a dozen recruits Dec. 7-9.

"I had them at my house for the first recruiting weekend," Alvarez said. "I knew as soon as we got someone in here we'd be OK.

"Especially Gary. He's got personality . . . They are going to sense and feel that he's a players' coach. He is going to care about him."

To date, only one player from the 2013 class has officially de-committed. That was junior-college defensive back Tiquention Coleman, who signed with Arkansas.

UW has 17 known commitments for the class.

"Once you get someone in place it makes it a lot easier," Alvarez said. "There is a face that you can identify with."

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Sounds like 4-star Craig Evans out of my dad's alma mater Sun Prairie is the first major "decommit". Though it sounds like he could still end up with the Badgers.

http://wisconsin.scout.com/a.z?s=193&p= ... 52528.html

Feeling he was rushed into his initial commitment and not having a relationship with the current Wisconsin coaching staff, Sun Prairie (Wis.) defensive tackle Craig Evans has reopened his recruitment.

New OC has been named apparently...

Jeff Potrykus ‏@jaypo1961
Andy Ludwig (San Diego State OC) is at UW practice. Andersen to speak to reporters after practice. UW has new OC.
