According to Adam Schefter, Adalius Thomas has been released:

Filed to ESPN: Patriots released LB Adalius Thomas. Only question was when. And the when is now. Thomas now free to sign elsewhere.

For those of you disappointed that TT passed on pass rushing OLB in the draft, is this a guy you would target?

He's a guy like Merriman on the clear decline. I'd rather have him than Merriman though.

I would agree with this, he would be free.........he was awful last year though and wasn't he a distraction to the team? I thought I remembered him being suspended or maybe he was deactivated for poor play....doesn't do much for me at all.

Merriman is 25 years old, so I'd obviously rather have him, but he'd also cost more. I think Merriman is a perfect fit for LOLB. Thomas is 32 and had three sacks last year, I honestly think Brad Jones will be more productive than him in 2010.

As long as Thomas would be willing to split time with Jones, I would be fine with this.

Merriman would be my primary target though.

The San Diego Chargers put linebacker Shawne Merriman on the trade block during the NFL draft.

Per Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune, there were trade talks regarding Merriman during each day of the draft.

However, all trade talks were stalled by the fact that whatever team acquired the linebacker would have to get a long-term contract done.

That fact “ultimately thwarted” all possible trades according to Acee.

Unless something miraculous happens he should be back in San Diego next year.

I think we all know TT isn't shelling out a long-term deal for Merriman. Man, he'd look nice here though. Him and Matthews? Yes please.

Thomas probably doesn't have much left in the tank at 32 it seems like, but he just didn't seem to be a fit for the Pats. I'd take a flier on him, if just for experienced depth.

Yeah he didn't even start all the games last year and I know he was unhappy there and didn't seem like a good fit.

This is where it is TTs call. People thought Woodson was washed up before we signed him and he just won DMVP. If TT thinks he can get something out of Thomas I will trust him to make that call, that is why he is paid the big bucks.

I think he's a lock to stay in the AFC East.

Schefter is saying Miami is the most likely destination followed by the Jets

I'd definitely take him.

I'll be shocked if he doesn't go to the Jets, Ravens, or Dolphins.

That said, Derrick Burgess is a free agent, is a bit younger than Thomas, and had a better season last year, racking up 5 sacks (3 in the last 4 games as he became used to the 3-4 defense).

Greg Ellis will be 35 when the season starts, but he had 7 sacks last season (8 the year before) and is still available.

New England. He was getting used to the 3-4 for the first half of the season. He wanted/wants to go back to NE but so far they haven't offered him anything even though he would have signed for next to nothing.

Jaguars released John Henderson.

Had we not drafted those defensive linemen, I'd give him a shot at the 5 technique.

I can't believe Merriman is only 25 years old :o :o

I literallty went to go look that up because I didn't believe it. It seems like he should be a lot older than that.
