Woodson agrees to 2 year extension.

Post#1 » by PkrsBcksGphsMqt » Thu Sep 9, 2010 5:33 pm

@TomSilverstein

A source close to Charles Woodson has confirmed that the Packers CB has agreed to a contract extension. Should be finalized in a day or so.

:rockon:
EDIT:
@TomSilverstein

No word on the terms yet, but years and dollars are added. Woodson was due to make 7.4 mil this year and had three years left at 22.2 mil.

Didn't realize he had that many years left. Still probably a good move, we'll have to wait to see the terms I guess.

Woodson had 3 years left on his deal. Packers had to give him a bump, especially after Revis.

He's almost 34 right now, still looks great. Hopefully he can keep up his play for at least two more seasons. Will be interesting to see how much he gets in guaranteed money.

He's playing at such a high level that he should be productive as at least a nickel back or possibly safety for 4+ years.

RT @JosinaAnderson: Packers and Charles Woodson have agreed on a new deal. ... Correct. It's a 2-yr extension, tying him to GB for 5 years.

I think he'll make the transition from CB to safety in a few years and you probably won't lose too much.

Good move.

I'm thinking this too, but what if Burnett turns into a stud at Safety and Nick Collins is still at a Pro Bowl level, do we just let Woodson provide depth at safety?

Not sure he'll be playing for the next five years but he deserved some more cash. We always take care of our own.

I agree with this. In 2-3 years I think he'll be able to move over to safety and play for another couple of seasons at a high level.

The main concern with him now is if he can stay healthy.

Good move for a guy that should retire as a Packer now. He's been named to six Pro Bowls, two AP First Team All-Pro teams, and been the DPOY. If he makes maybe three more Pro Bowls and gets a ring, he's probably got a good shot at the HOF.

Love Chuck Woody.

Woodson says GB is the place for him
By Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel

Sept. 9, 2010 2:37 p.m. |(7) Comments

Green Bay -- Once convinced that he was not going to be able to be happy in Titletown, Packers cornerback Charles Woodson agreed to a two-year contract extension that will tie him to the organization until 2014.

Woodson will be 39 years old at the time his new deal expires and he said he expects it to be the last one he signs.

"Once I came around, I came around hard," Woodson said of his comfort with Green Bay. "It's been a great ride and hopefully we'll become a great championship team."

The Packers announced the two-year deal just before Woodson entered the locker room during the media session and the 13-year veteran said he was thrilled to add more years to his contract. Financial terms of the deal were not announced, but Woodson confirmed it was a two-year extension.

Woodson said the more he became familiar with the community and the organization the more comfortable he became. He said it was a gradual process coming around to being a part of the Packers, but he finally came to be in a good place.

"Once I realized what I had.... it was a done deal," he said.

Woodson said his agent, Carl Poston, and the Packers have been having discussions since the off-season about upgrading his contract following a season in which he was named defensive player of the year. The recent contract upgrades of top corners Nnmandi Asmoghua of Oakland and Darrelle Revis of the New York Jets made it logical to up his salary.

As for this season, Woodson said the sky's the limit.

"We've got it here," Woodson said. "We've got the players to get it done. We've got the coaches. All the rest is on our shoulders. It's about believing in ourselves."

Yea, after the Revis signing, this could mainly be a good will gesture to get Woodson some guaranteed money and thus get his pay closer in line to Revis.

Awesome news. Happy for Charles, happy for the team, happy for us as fans.

And yes, he's certainly building his HOF resume.

With Michaell Redd's resurgence the Bucks look to be dangerous in the East. ESPN

Awesome for Woodson, and awesome for the Packers. I liked the signing when it happened, and obviously it's been a huge windfall for us, culminating in his DPOY season last year. I've loved Woodson since he was at Michigan though; just an extraordinary player and I'm glad to see that he'll be (presumably) retiring as a Packer.

Absolutely love it! The day I heard we signed Woodson several years ago, I got his replica jersey immediately when it was in stores. I think I'm gonna have to upgrade to the Authentic. Mine is getting a bit worn out!

As long as he can stay healthy, I think he has a lot left in the tank.
