Great insight. I can really see both sides--I don't blame Favre at all for his "I don't have a couple years" mentality at that point and I don't blame the Pack for their posiion and wanting that two-year deal.

Reading this makes me just as sick to my stomach as seeing every moss touchdown catch. We had the money to re-sign him. Even on a one year deal he was worth the risk of a 4th round pick. He should we wearing green and gold lined up opposite Jennings with our boy DD in the slot. Sometimes I hate sports.

Good read. I love NFP. If i was moss, I'd most definitely want to be catching balls from Brady as opposed to Favre anyways.

Not getting Moss is something I will always hold against Ted Thompson. He should of been a Packer and I truly believe that would of put us over the top. What a wonderful fantasy world that would of been, Brett gets his ring and is able to ride off into the sunset as a Packer.

I'm so **** pissed that we didn't get Moss, our offense would be just as dominant as it is now and we would probably have had the same record every single season.

We get it, you love Brett Favre and hate Ted Thompson.
This is how we saw it shake out. Who knows if we would have made a 1 year offer that was essentially the same as New England's he still wouldn't have gone there anyways?
And yes, Thompson botched it. But the end of the article shows Favre's true colors. He bailed on the team and this is about the 500th example of Favre quitting the Packers and not "retiring" as he claimed.

This is why i hate thompson.
it's not that he botched the deal.
it's not that he and favre hated each other.
it's because he stands on his principles too much and doesn't budge.
Thompson loves to build his team through the draft, and very seldonm will be an active player to acquire somebody from outside teh system. time has proven he's had many opportunities. financial records have proven mone y has never been a factor. it's just ted doesn't like going te extra mile to get a deal done, and he'll never overpay for anybody.
Whe n Walker was injured in the second game of the year, ted could have traded draft picks to acquire a veteran quality receiver. Several were on the market. he decided to replace Walker with players within the team.
now grant is lost for teh year. Does ted trade for maroney? Does he sign a veteran free agent like Parker or mike jones or make a trade? No. he picks up a guy off a practice squad.
teh same with harrell. rather than trade away hsi precious draft picks to replace an injured player, he looks first to finding somebody within the system first.
it's not that ted is stupid. it's just that he's more oriented to not budging from his own principles.
Well , i hope the packers either win a super bowl with all this talent ted has drafted, or they realize they will never make it past the second round because ted refuses to compromise and acquire the guys it takes to get over that hurdle.

I agree, MajorDad. I prefer guys that don't stand by their principles. Those are the types of people that make good leaders.

Right. Because Moss wasn't and still isn't better than Jennings, driver, Nelson or jones. Makes total sense.
It's not like moss had the greatest season ever when he went to the patriots.
Plus, Allen barbre in the fourth round that year has had way more of an impact than moss ever could.

Regarding his principles, I do find it curious that TT wouldn't even deal with Bus Cook. Does that go for all agents or just him? Not sure I would always adhere to that policy, but I'd need more info...

I haven't read a whole lot about it, but I've heard a lot of rumors and read some smaller stories that TT isn't really active with the agents and/or players... Even when most of them work out and things like that. This could be totally false, because like I said I haven't seen a whole lot to support it.
I think (can't remember his name) the guy who signs a majority of the contracts and works out contract details does most of the talking, along with MM in terms of players they work out and things like that.
I think TT has a good football mind and seems like an overall nice guy. I don't think he'd be much of a recruiter though with the type of personality he has.

I think in this case it was in reference to Bus Cook trying to push Favre's agenda. If it was actually something contract related or business related in any way, I'm sure TT would take a different approach.

I don't like getting into the Moss thing 3 years later but I was pretty pissed we didn't pick him up.You could make an argument it was good in the long run that we didn't because maybe Jennings doesn't develop as well or maybe Favre sticks around longer and Rodgers bolts and with Moss you got the locker room factor that might have come into play.
I think you can make a better argument we win it all in 2007 if we have Moss though.
To go 13-3 and lose the NFC title game in OT to the team that won the Super Bowl it's very arguable a player of Moss' caliber would have put you over the top.Especially when you consider the season Moss and Favre both had in 2007.
I will say though, had the Packers beat the Giants in the NFC title game and gone on to lose to the Pats in the Super Bowl, not getting Moss would go down as maybe one of the biggest blunders in team history.
Obviously because not only do miss on Moss' production on your team but Moss' production on the Pats comes right back and smacks you in the face in the Super Bowl.

I honestly don't think we win the NFC Championship no matter what. That was the first game I realized how much the cold and weather conditions really effected Favre. For the first time in my lifetime Lambeau actually hurt the Pack's chances instead of helping us. He looked like a 60 year old man in that sub zero weather. Not even Randy Moss could have saved us in that game, Favre was still going to play like crap.
