OT - Vincent Jackson to the Queens?

I am signed up to get fantasy football updates from footballguys.com and they just sent out this e-mail to subscribers...

Hi Folks,

I've always told you I'll operate this thing on a "you'll know what I know" basis. This isn't "reporting" or "journalism". This is me telling you what I'm hearing. The following is 100% unconfirmed. But it's also something I'd want to know.

Lee Hamilton, afternoon drive sportstalk host on XX-1090 in San Diego is reporting that the Vikings are prepared to make an offer to San Diego for WR Vincent Jackson.

Link: https://twitter.com/hacksaw1090

Yes, this is a long shot. Especially as there is talk that the league would have to lift Jackson's suspension to make the deal work. But it's an encouraging sign to see them talking. This would obviously be a big boost for Brett Favre.

If Jackson is a guy that you can add without much cost, I'd roll the dice on him if you're in need of a WR. It's clear the Vikings need a #1 WR with Rice out.

Bottom line is don't do anything rash. This is UNCONFIRMED and I'm just passing this along as something I'm hearing. If you made me put a number on how likely I think something would happen here, I'd say 30%. But for some of you guys, that makes it worth grabbing Jackson if he's available.

This may or may not be happening, but there has been a lot of smoke lately, so I figured we could start a thread.

I really hope this doesn't happen, the last thing Favre needs is another big time target. Once Sidney Rice comes back Minnesota could have the best 1-3 wide receivers in the league along with a top 2 back. I wouldn't want to have to deal with that.

I'd think after Monday's game the Chargers would be doing everything they could to get Jackson signed. I'm in the same boat as you, do NOT want him going to the Vikings, when Rice comes back they'd be tough to stop no matter who you had on Rice/Jackson/Shiancoe, etc

I thought I remembered them talking about this a week or two ago. Never seemed to really have anything. And like PB89 said I really doubt the Chargers aren't just gonna trade this guy after seeing their offense struggle so bad against the Chiefs.

If the Vikings trade for him, can they get the same judge to say the suspension is unconstitutional?

Probably not. I think he got this suspension for a DUI?

NFL and NFLPA engaged in settlement talks that will reduce Vincent Jackson's suspension from 6 to 5 or 4 games in event he is traded.

I don't get it. How does being traded make a DUI any better? And did his suspension start week 1 or does it not start until he stops holding out?

I disagree that he can be signs without much cost. The Chargers will let him Rot before giving him away unless things change and Jackson is looking for his big payday. Who ever gets him will pay for him in talent, picks and or contract.

Jackson, who has not played or practiced a down for the Chargers while in a contract holdout, still must serve his three-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. The Chargers also had placed him on the roster-exempt list, which meant Jackson would have to sit out an additional three games if he reported to San Diego.

But if an agreement is reached and the Chargers trade Jackson, he would be allowed to report to his new team after either four or five games.

Jackson was set to argue that if he is traded, he should not have to serve the additional three games because the Chargers put him on that list, not his potential new team.

Vincent Jackson could play as soon as the fifth week of the season -- for a team besides the Chargers.

The NFL and the players' union reached a settlement Thursday that clears the way for Jackson to play in the fifth game for any team he is traded to.

It is believed -- and certainly the hope of Jackson's agents -- that this ruling could help pave the way for a trade.

Three teams have been given official permission to speak to Jackson's agents. Seattle and St. Louis are two, and it is believed Minnesota is the third. The Vikings were interested last month but balked at the high asking price from Jackson.

Chargers WR Vincent Jackson's settlement is done. He can play after four games if traded. If not, he'll be out for six games.

Here is another report confirming the settlement. Such a weird ruling.

He was only suspended for 3 games, but the Chargers used a roster exemption on him since he was holding out which means he has to miss another 3 games. VJ and his team were arguing that if he was traded he shouldn't have to sit out the additional three games since it was the Chargers and not his potential new team that used the roster exemption on him. Makes sense to me.

I'm fine with the Vikings adding Jackson and overpaying him. He'll only play one year with Favre (IMO) and they already have a ton of money tied up in Berrian (and probably Rice after he re-signs). With no QB of the future anywhere in sight, I'm fine with them tying up big money at WR.

I love that Berrian contract. He's easily the most over paid WR in the NFL.

Apparently there is some sort of deadline tied to the settlement.

Clock is ticking: Chargers have from Friday 4 pm to Wednesday 4 pm to trade Vincent Jackson, with him missing four games. Otherwise, 6 games

Percy Harvin was held out of Thursday's practice after being limited with a hip injury on Wednesday.

Another reason I think the Vikes will trade for Jackson. They can't count on Harvin to be there.

Any team that trades for V. Jackson must pay him about $9 mil per year and the Chargers at least one premium pick. Not easy to do by Weds.

I don't get it, it should be either 4 games or 6. there should be no negotiations or deadlines with a suspension

His suspension is only 3 games, the additional 3 games has to use with a roster exception the Chargers are using due to him holding out, his argument was that if they trade him the other team wouldn't need the roster exception, thus it should no longer apply. They aren't trying to lower the suspension, just the amount of time he has to sit out if he gets traded.
